Skills covered
Reading- This week we worked on author’s purpose and author’s perspective. It was also a
review week, so students had more time to free read for AR which they loved. The Roots for
the week were chron, temp, and loc all of which are roots about a time and a place.
English—To help us remember subordinating conjunctions we watched a neat YouTube
about these conjunctions. Hopefully, it will help us when we are writing complex sentences.
We also worked on proof reading skills.
Math- We are still working on the division of whole numbers, remainders, and the inverse
operation of division which is multiplication.
Science- We learned that matter is anything that has mass and takes up space. Since
volume show how much space an object has, we discussed different ways to measure
volume.
Social Studies- Unit two which is about the Native Peoples of North America was started
this week. Different theories of how the first Native Peoples arrived on the land were
discussed. Be sure to ask your child how they did on the first 10 states/capital test.
