International Section
From 6 ° to Terminale (from Year 7 to 13)
Objectives of the International Section
Exams

Encouraging the development of the language of English-speaking students and
enabling non-English-speaking students to practice English thoroughly and aim for a
mother tongue level

Promoting the transmission of the cultural and literary heritage of English-speaking
countries

Offering the experience of a pedagogical approach typical of Great Britain, in addition to
the French curriculum

Preparing and ensuring the success of students in the British and French exams of the
International Section
DNB OI
Diplôme National du Brevet Option Internationale (Secondary Junior School certificate,
International Option)
Two oral tests in language & literature and in history-geography are added to the tests of
the classical French DNB
IGCSE
International General Certificate of Secondary Education
Equivalent O-level GCE (Ordinary-level General Certificate of Education).
Minimum level of education to gain access to higher education in the United-Kingdom or to
qualify for a job
IELTS
International English Language Testing System (substitute for TOEFL)
English language test jointly administered by the University of Cambridge, the British
Council and the Australian IDP Education Organisation
OIB
French Baccalaureate, International Option (not to be confused with the IB - International
Baccalaureate) - Written tests of LV1 and history-geography are replaced by written and
oral tests in literature and history-geography in English.
Bilingual and bicultural baccalauréat, where English is at the same level as French, and
where history and geography combine the curriculum of two countries.
Warning! The International Section is very demanding for students

Admission tests for the International Section
Admission in 6°, 5° & 4° (Year 7, 8 & 9)
A written test of 1h30:
Candidates will have to read an excerpt from a fictional text and answer
questions of understanding and interpretation
They will have to write an imaginary sequel to the excerpt read

An oral test of 5 minutes - candidates must already be fluent in English
Candidates should be prepared to talk about their motivation for
studying in the SI section and the place of English in their life.
Candidates may too be asked to read a small section of the reading text
(from the written test) aloud with some follow-up questions.
Admission in 3° (Year 10)
A written test of 1h30:
Candidates will have to read a passage from a text and answer
comprehension and interpretation questions
Read and closely analyse from a choice of two texts (poem or prose)
without any preparation

An oral test of 5 minutes - candidates must already be fluent in English
Candidates should be prepared to talk about their motivation for
studying in the SI section and the place of English in their life
They may be asked to read a text aloud and then they will be asked
questions on this text.
Admission in 1° (Year 12)
A written test of 1h30:
Candidates will be given a thought provoking text to read that is
related to language and literature
They will have to choose between two subjects and write an essay.

An oral test of 10 minutes - candidates must already be fluent in English
Candidates will be asked about their motivation for taking the OIB,
and to articulate what they hope to do in the future.
They should also be prepared to discuss the content of their written
essay.
