N O W I N I T S 3 7 T H Y E A R Dudley Trail Sunday 30 April 2017 Challenge walks of 6, 9, 12, 20 or 28 miles within and around Dudley Borough For further information about the Dudley Trail please Call 01384 817817 The Dudley Trail is a challenging walk in the heart of the ‘Black Country’ within and around the boundary of Dudley Borough. It is open to all: walkers, strollers and joggers; old and young (although children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult). The aims of the walk are to encourage walking as an enjoyable and healthy activity and to join, in one walk, some of the many varied landscapes within the Borough. There are five main routes: 28 miles, 20 miles, 12 miles, 9 miles and a 6 mile route. The routes include canal towpaths, a disused railway, a geological nature reserve, country footpaths and some roads. Finishing walkers will receive a Dudley Trail certificate. START The start/finish is Dudley Leisure Centre, Wellington Road, Dudley (see map). Walkers should report to WALK CONTROL on arrival and ensure that their control card is stamped. Walkers can register from 7.30 am. Car parking limited. Parking available on Stafford Street Car Park. Complete and remove the attached entry form and return it to: Dudley Trail, Dudley MBC, Himley Hall & Park, Himley, Dudley, West Midlands DY3 4DF, together with the entry fees and SAE (9" x 4"). Cheques should be made payable to Dudley MBC. Control cards will be sent to the first person named on the entry form (control cards for entries received after 26 April will be available at the LATE ENTRY desk on the day of the event.) Entry fees cannot be refunded. ROUTE DIRECTIONS Detailed route instructions will be issued to each participant on the day of the walk. The route will be marked in places, but it will be necessary for each participant to follow the printed instructions closely. A map of the routes will be displayed at the start. CHECKPOINTS Walkers must have their control cards punched at each checkpoint. Checkpoint opening times assume a fastest pace of 6.5 mph and a slowest pace of 2.5 mph. RETIREMENT Please make sure that if you retire you do so at a checkpoint, or telephone Dudley Leisure Centre on 01384 812800 or 07815 828226 stating your control number and which walk you are on. Walkers who arrive at the last checkpoint after 6.30 pm will be retired. Transport to the finish will be provided. FIRST AID facilities will be provided at the start/finish and checkpoints. An emergency telephone (07815 828226 - the Dome at Dudley Leisure Centre ) will be manned throughout the day. Alternatively call Dudley Leisure Centre on 01384 812800. RAMBLERS Stourbridge Holiday Fellowship (HF) Rambling Club and Dudley Ramblers continue to provide their support and assistance for the 37th Dudley Trail, as they have from the beginning. Members will be assisting at the check in desk and manning various checkpoints along the route. The 37th anniversary of this special event is another opportunity for the Ramblers to continue to serve the community in promoting a healthy lifestyle. ACTION HEART has incentives on offer for anyone willing to raise sponsorship on behalf of their charity. Due to the support of Adidas, a pair of trail shoes will be awarded to anyone raising £100 or more for Action Heart. For £75+ the incentive will be an Adidas hoodie. SPONSORSHIP Although this is not a sponsored walk, individuals or groups are welcome to use it as such and sponsorship forms can be signed at the completion of the walk. PARKING As parking at Dudley Leisure Centre is limited, participants arriving by car should use the public car parks in Stafford Street and Steppingstone Street. PREPARATION Dress comfortably and prepare for all weathers. Adequate footwear should be worn. Give yourself plenty of time to prepare physically, especially for the long distance walks. Checkpoints do provide squash but longer distance walkers are advised to take soft drinks and snacks with them. RULES A The instructions of event officials must be complied with. B Walkers should keep to the walk route. C Walkers must present their own control card at checkpoints. D Comply with the Country Code please; do not stray from footpaths or drop litter. E Comply with the Highway Code; keep to pavements and always face oncoming traffic. F Any dogs brought on the walk must be kept on a lead.
