Important Dates this week
Regards, 12 Jan 12
Reduce Electricity Day
Come dressed in your own clothes for
a day of classes outside.
Wear a slogan on your shirt giving one
tip as to how to save electricity.
(example: turn off the light)
Non uniform day.
Be GREEN. Be an ECO ambassador
for the planet and our school!
Welcome back to all our students and parents. Inshallah, term 2
will be a fantastic time packed full with many activities. Our
students are now used to the new kindergarten daily schedule
and center based learning which promotes independence as well
as the new assessment regime moving a student from
introduction, to teacher assisted and onto independence.
This term in kindergarten, there is a focus on fine motor
skills. To help your child develop through the writing stages, try
the following at home:
1. Have paper and crayons available for scribbling, shape
creation and emergent writing.
2. Encourage muscle development by squeezing
(sponges/playdoh), pinching (water dropper, tweezers and
beads), supervised scissors work, lacing and stringing (lacing
cards, macaroni necklaces) and tracing (mazes, dot to dot,
writing in flour, shaving cream or rice)
3. Promote drawing of people, objects and events in an art book
or hang these pictures in the bedroom as part of a gallery. Ask
your child about what they have drawn, the colors they have
used as well as the shapes to encourage self expression.
4. Look for letters in the environment (shops, road signs,
magazines/newspapers/books, boxes, the computer/TV and food
like alphabet soup) and allow your child to trace around the
letters or shape the letter in the air.
5. Encourage fun letter creation using shoe strings, Playdoh,
stencils, chalk boards/ whiteboard and computer applications.
6. Help your child write their name on their own things – first
letter capital and the rest in lower case – by having writing cards
available for practice (print the name in Centruy Gothic font and
laminate or contact paper).
7. Write words that label objects in the house and stick them on
the object.
8. Practice makes perfect.
Our new term of after school clubs begins this week. Please
register for the new term and send your payment to school
