Hardboiled Pink Easter Eggs
A fun project for your family around the Easter holidays, and a great snack!
Hardboiled Egg
Ingredients:
Egg
Steps:
1. Place however many eggs you would like to hardboil (and
potentially dye) in a pot. Cover them with an inch of cold
water.
2. Place the pot on the stove over medium-high heat. Bring the
water to a boil, then cover the pot and turn off the heat. Allow
the eggs to sit 12 minutes.
3. Remove the eggs from the water with a slotted spoon, and
place in the refridgerator in a safe place!
Pink Beet Dye:
Ingredients:
Hardboiled egg
1 meduim sized beet, cut into small pieces
1 Tbl white vinegar
2 cups boiling water
Steps:
1. Add your boiling water and white vinegar to the chopped
beet, and allow to cool to room temperature.
2. Once cooled, remove the beet pieces with a slotted spoon.
3. Place your hardboiled eggs in the dye, and allow to sit
overnight. To add a pattern, try drawing with crayon on your
hardboiled egg or placing a rubber band around it.
4. After sitting overnight, remove the eggs from the dye, and
carefully dry them. For extra shine, rub a small amount of oil
over the egg. Enjoy these as an Easter decoration and a
delicious snack!
Try making a yellow dye from turmeric as well! Instead of beets,
use 3 Tbl turmeric and only 1.5 cups of boiling water in step 1, and
skip step 2!
To make a blue dye from red cabbage, use 1 cup chopped red
cabbage instead of beets in step 1!
Tips:
Keep your hardboiled eggs refridgerated, and consume within a
week of cooking them. If your egg smells rotten, don't eat it!
Hardboiled eggs are a fantastic, high-protein snacks for the whole
family. They are also a great add-in for salads or sandwiches!
