Rodent Control
Rodent infestations can cause considerable
damage to infested buildings. They colonize in
attics, burrows, under concrete and porches, in
wall voids and other hard-to-reach places. The
presence of one rodent signals an infestation. You
have a choice to feed rodents or your birds.
Rats and mice feed on seeds and grains. Rats eat
1/3 of their body weight per day of feed. That
equals ¼ lb. of feed per rat per day. One hundred
rats eat 175 lbs. of feed per week. 15 mice eat ¼
lb. feed per day.
Rats and mice are rapid breeders. Small
populations become full-blown infestations in
very little time.
Mice: 8 liters per year, 4-7 pups per litter. Single
female mouse can produce up to 56 pups each
year.
Rats: 4-7 liters per year, 8-12 pups per litter.
Single female rat can produce up to 84 pups each
year.
Rats and mice are known carriers of many
diseases including Salmonella. Positive drag swab
can be devastating to a poultry operation.
The best way to protect your facility is to make
sure live boxes and bait stations are in place with
bait. Utilize traffic cop at all entrances.
Rodents are some of the most adaptable creatures
on the planet and can be difficult to exterminate.
Rodent control is best started prior to infestations.
100 rats consume the same amount of feed as 100
chickens.
