APTITUDE TEST INFORMATION
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The Pre Apprenticeship in Schools - Electrical Program at the College of Electrical
Training, Jandakot, is limited to 16 students and is very competitive. An Aptitude Test
forms a critical part of the selection process for students. The following is some
information to prepare students for this test and it is strongly recommended that
students discuss their preparation for the Test with their VET Coordinator and
school Maths Teacher, particularly if they are not familiar with Trigonometry.
ABOUT THE TEST
The Aptitude Test is a 1.5 hour paper based test covering Comprehension and
Maths. It will be conducted at the College of Electrical Training’s premises at 5 Avior
Drive, Jandakot (Telephone: 9417 8166) and will be administered and marked by
CET staff or contracted personnel. Students are required to bring a scientific
calculator and pen/pencils to the test. (Mobile phones are not permitted in the
test room.)
MATHS
The test is in two parts. For the first part students will not be permitted to use
their calculator. For the second part of the test, calculators will be required.
The test will cover:
 Transposition of Formulae
 Estimation (e.g. students will be given a scenario and they will need
to estimate the cost or quantity of goods from the information given)
 Calculations WITHOUT the use of a calculator (e.g. additions,
subtractions, etc)
 Scientific notations WITHOUT the use of a calculator
 Identification of Scales
 Trigonometry and Pythagoras requires the use of a scientific
calculator
ENGLISH COMPREHENSION
For the Comprehension section, students will be required to read a Short text
and answer questions relating to the text.
VENUE AND DATE OF TEST
The Aptitude Test will be conducted at the College of Electrical Training, Jandakot
Campus at 5 Avior Drive, Jandakot (Telephone: 9417 8166) Dates and times will be
advised by the school. Students are required to be in attendance 15 minutes prior to
