Grads from 11 different states and Germany came home to Milton-Union to attend the 126th Alumni Banquet and Meeting. We had reservations for 589 Alums and friends. The weather cooperated with a comfortable temperature and no rain. Each year Dana Dickison ‘80 and M-U High School student volunteers set up the tables and chairs under the direction of Banquet Chairman, Yvonne Kochersperger. Arranging all the tables and chairs for five hundred people plus is a lot of work and Dana and his group are truly appreciated. The Sophomore Class served beverages to all and meals to the ‘senior’ attendees. They also stayed after the banquet to clean everything up. There were approximately 600 people in attendance on a beautiful spring evening. Those in attendance were welcomed by smiling faces at the front table entrance. The 25 year class of ’88 supplied the decorations and greeters along with a 50/50 raffle. As guests entered, they also enjoyed the succession of class pictures which are displayed on the wall to the left of the gymnasium. The banquet opened with remarks by Alumni President, Pam Stonerock Paulus, Class of 1988. Recognition was given to Nadine Thompson and Yvonne Martindale Kochersperger for all that they do throughout the year for the Alumni Association, specifically for their time and dedication to the Alumni Banquet. Special thanks was also given to the Class of 1989 for banquet planning and set-up, Dana Dickison for the “heavy lifting” of tables and chairs, and the sophomore Class of 2016 for being the servers throughout the evening. Pam then introduced 1989 graduate, Heather Mote Henry, who led the pledge of allegiance and also provided the invocation prior to the meal. Dinner was catered from the Brickhouse Café, owned by Jolene Johnson Sell (’76). The meal consisted of herb chicken, beef brisket, buttered parsley potatoes, green beans almondine, salad, rolls, cobbler, water, coffee, and iced tea. WWW.ALUMNI.MUSCHOOLS.COM 4 HALL OF HONOR We were happy to induct Richard Steiner Class of 1943 and Joel Vanderburg Class of 1960 into the Hall of Honor during the last Alumni Meeting. The Hall of Honor committee is always happy to receive applications for new inductees. We all have people in our classes that have accomplished great things with their lives and we need each of you to think of these classmates and nominate them for The Hall of Honor. You can download an application by going to www.milton-union.k12.oh.us or stopping by the Superintendent’s office. We will have applications at the Alumni Banquet for you to pick up also. The Hall of Honor recipients for this year (2015) are: Jim Kinnison ‘53, Rachel Ann Harlacher Minnich ‘44, Robert Hemmerich ‘44 The committee is made up of the Superintendent or designee, the Board of Education President or designee, an Alumni Board member, and six community members representing different class years. The committee members are as follows: Ralph Warner (‘60’s), Keith Weidner (40’s), Krista Lair Carpenter (90’s), Dick Markley (50’s), Dr. Bill Ginn (70’s), Monte Swigart (‘80’s), Yvonne Kochersperger (Alumni Rep), Jodi Minneman (Board of Education), and Ginny Rammel (Superintendent). THE CARING SPIRIT OF THE CLASS OF ‘70 Class of 1970 - Sever al member s of the Class of 1970 wer e getting their exer cise walking ar ound the cemeter y. They noticed a fellow classmates grave site had only one of the small temporary markers on it. Upon investigation they found there was no money available for a permanent marker. They were concerned so contacted their classmates and told them the story. The donations came in and now their classmate has a proper head stone that all can see. A NEW CATERER THIS YEAR Jolene has decided to take a year off from doing our banquet, so we had to find a new caterer to take her place. We will miss her! The new caterer is Stillwater Catering out of Covington, owned by Robert Besecker and Robin Permenter. They come highly recommended and we look forward to working with them. Robin is the daughter of Barbara Roush Permenter from the Class of 1955. We are happy to keep this in the Alumni family. IMPROVEMENTS The configuration of the auditorium is a bit different than the old auditorium and the tarps that must cover the floor did not cover all the floor. We are required to have all the floor covered where the chairs and tables are placed. The past two years it has been a bit crowded, to say the least, in the back of the room. The Alumni Association purchased additional tarps at the cost of $1,048 for the auditorium floor. This will make more space available for chairs and tables. This year we will be showing all the Alumni speakers and seniors on a big screen. We have had a number of complaints the last two years that the alums in the back of the auditorium could not see the speakers or seniors when they introduced themselves. HOMETOWN HEROS The Village of West Milton is once again selling Hometown Hero Banners. Each banner is $200 and must be ordered by March 27, 2015. A banner may also be sponsored by a group or an individual for an additional cost. A portion of each banner goes towards the Gifts for Yanks program. A Hero must be/or have been a resident of Union township. If you have questions, check out the application on the School Website or please call the Village Office at 698-1500.
