Math Calendar Activities for Grade 1 Morrison’s Math Madness May 2017 Sunday 7 Solve the follow problems: Monday 1 Ask your child to Skip count to 100 by 1s and 10s. Can you skip count higher than 100? Which number were you able to skip count to? Give it a try. 2 Google: Greg Tang Math Games. 8 Using the numbers 9 Allow your child to borrow some pennies and dimes. Help them to figure out the total value, 8, 10 – 10 – 10 – 10 – 10 – 5 = ______ 4 = ______ 3 = ______ 2 = ______ 1 = ______ Tuesday 11, 3 Write the 4 number sentences that will create a fact family. Play Ten Frame Mania or Num Tanga Jr. for at least 10 minutes. Wednesday Thursday 3 Show your child dice/dominos/etc. and ask your child to tell you the amount shown. Tip: They should be able to do this WITHOUT counting. 4 10 Today is the 11th. How many number sentences can you write that will equal 11? For example: 9 + 2 = 11 11 Practice your math facts. 17 Pick your favorite book and read it with a family member. Discuss how math was used in the story OR how it could be used. 18 Estimate/guess the number of times you can write your name in one minute. Try it. Was your estimation close? Ask your child to explain what time it is when you ask “When is half past 3?” First graders have been taught to read time on an ANALOG clock to the hour and half hour. Test their skills! Friday Saturday 5 Ask your child to count by ones starting at 120. 6 How many Sundays are there in the month of May? How many Sundays and Tuesdays are there altogether? Ask your child to count by tens starting at 120. 12 There are 8 apples. I ate 5. How many apples are left? For fun, with an adult, google “make 10 rap songs” there are several entertaining songs that will pop up. Do you notice a pattern? 14 Ask your child if they can extend the doubles facts: 10 + 10 = ____ 20 + 20 = ____ 30 + 30 = ____ Etc. etc. 15 Spend 10 minutes practicing addition and/or subtraction facts on thatquiz.org. Or you can practice with flashcards. 16 8 = ____ + 6 Write a related addition or subtraction fact that has the same meaning as the number sentence above. 13 When added together, what numbers make 10? List as many as you can. Ex. 8 + 2 = 10 19 Math Posters Due! Play a math game of your choice. 20 Family Fun - with someone at home estimate/guess how many crackers are in a small bag/box. Count them. Thursday 25 Family Math Game Night at Morrison 6pm-7pm Write as many addition number sentences that you can think of. Write all the doubles facts that you know. Friday Saturday 26 Greg Tang Spring Math Challenge Due 27 Family Fun! At the beach? Practice tracing numbers in the sand. If you’re at home, use shaving cream to practice tracing numbers or to solve addition facts. Fact Olympics! Spirit Day – Wear clothes with NUMBERS! Ex. 8 + 4 = 12 28 Spend 10 minutes practicing addition and subtraction facts on thatquiz.org. Or just practice with flashcards. 29 No School! Play a math game or a board game with your family. 30 A farmer has 2 cows and 3 chickens in his barn. How many legs are there? If needed, draw a picture to help you. 31 June 1 Ask an adult how they use math in their daily lives? Then ask them to fill out the parent share form so that it can be read over the announcements.
