Cover the spool by cutting a strip from scrapbook paper, sheet music or holiday paper to fit around the center of the spool. Wrap strip around spool; trim excess. Secure ends of the strip using crafts glue. Add an ornament hanger by cutting a 6inch length of wire. Run wire through the shank of a button, leaving a half inch on one side of the shank. Bend both wire ends, leaving the short end slightly angled to allow for a tight fit when wire is pulled through spool. Feed the long end of the wire through the bottom of the spool. Add hot glue to button shank, then push short wire into the spool. Thread a large bead, then a small bead onto the wire at the top of the spool. Holding beads firmly against the spool, bend the wire at a 90-degree angle. Firmly wrap wire around a 1-1⁄8-inch-diameter object (such as neck of a glue bottle) to create a circular hanger. Curl wire end in a tiny circle using needle-nose pliers. Run crafts glue along bottom edge of spool and sprinkle with glitter; let dry. Repeat on top edge. Pierce a small hole at the top of the box. Loop baker’s twine through the hole and tie a large knot at the end; thread the loop through the hole in the box top. Adhere two pieces of curling ribbon and a bow; dangle a tag from the ribbon. ■ PAPER-STUFFED CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT: Using a paper trimmer, remove margins from around book text or sheet music, then cut the text into single-row strips if the paper is heavy or the text is large. Cut double-row strips of text if the paper is lightweight or the text is small. Remove the metal top from a clear glass ornament.
