We would like thank the host committee and the community of Olds for the hard work that has gone into planning this event, and the warm welcome extended to Hockey Alberta, the participants, and the families who have travelled to watch the action. This is our first year holding the Alberta Challenge in Olds, but we are well aware of the hockey tradition in the community, which was on display two years ago when Olds hosted Hockey Alberta’s inaugural Peewee Prospects Cup. The Alberta Challenge is a core Hockey Alberta development program. The focal point is our players – for the 2017 event female players born in 2002 and 2003. Regardless of experience, or size of community, these players have the opportunity to try out for a spot at the Alberta Challenge, and to play the game they love at a high level. Approximately 300 players started the selection process at zone camps in March. From that number, we have the opportunity to watch the top 120 divided into six regional teams. Being selected to represent your region is a significant accomplishment and honour. The Alberta Challenge gives you the opportunity to work with talented players, and learn from experienced coaches and Team Alberta development staff. As well, the Alberta Challenge involves many stakeholders who play key roles in ensuring a successful experience for the players and all participants. For some of these stakeholders – such as our volunteer coaches, therapists, directors of operations, and coach mentors – they are gaining experience and being evaluated for potential future positions with Team Alberta or perhaps even Team Canada at regional and national competitions. Hockey is a great game, allowing us to share a common bond and passion within a spirit of fair play and respect. The friendships and experiences you gain while participating this week will stay with you as you progress in hockey and throughout the rest of your life. Best wishes to everyone involved. Terry Engen, Chair, Board of Directors Hockey Alberta On behalf of the Host Organizing Committee of the 2017 Alberta Challenge we would like to welcome participants, staff, volunteers, officials and spectators to Olds! We see this event as an incredible opportunity to assist in the growth and development of players, coaches and officials in the female game, while showcasing the tremendous hospitality of Olds. We especially want to thank all of our volunteers and sponsors that have dedicated time, energy and resources to putting on a successful event. We wish all participants the best of luck in this week’s event and hope that you all make new friends and new memories over the next five days! Sincerely, Host Organizing Committee, 2017 Alberta Challenge 2017 ALBERTA CHALLENGE MAY 3 - 7, 2017 OLDS 4 Alberta Challenge Rules 1. 1. 2.
