Geographic tools /Types of Locations and
Regions
 To know where a place is, there are three types of locations.
Name these locations:
Mathematical Location
Geographic Location
Strategic Location
 Name the type of location described below:
When looking at the map of the world, you can see each country with its land
and water borders. This describe the______________
Geographic Location
When you want an accurate location of a place which is determined by the lines
of longitude and latitude, then you use the ______________
Mathematical Location
The type of location which is of great importance for navigation, shipping, and
armed forces is the __________________
Strategic Location
 What is the difference between an absolute location and a relative location?
Explain.
Absolute location is used by the lines of latitude and longitude to find an exact
location and Earth, while relative location is finding a location by comparing or
in relation to other places.
 What is the Ozone?
Ozone is one of Earth’s six layers that protect us from the harmful rays of the
sun.
 Why is the Ozone layer in danger?
As the rate of pollution increases, the hole created in the ozone has become
bigger. This hole allows dangerous rays to pass through and may cause skin
cancer to humans.
 What might be a possible solution for such a problem?
As the hole can’t be close, all we can do is prevent it from growing. We could
achieve this by stopping pollution around the world.
 What is Global Warming?
Global Warming is the increase in average temperatures around the globe. It
could affect the sea levels across the globe and may cause tsunamis. It also
affects the weather patterns around the globe.
 The Earth’s poles are the places where warming happens strongest thus
causing the ice to melt gradually. What effects result from that?
Since the temperature of Earth is rising and the weather is getting hotter,
natural disasters such as droughts, floods, forest fires. Storms and hurricanes
occur much more frequently.
 What is a natural resources?
Is a material found in nature and not manufactured by mankind.
 How do we benefit from natural resources?
People use these natural resources to live, example; to create electricity, oil
natural gas, and coal.

What is the meaning of the term “deforestation”?
Is the elimination of forests by the process of cutting down or burning trees
in forests.


How does hydroelectricity help in preserving natural resources?
This process aims at producing electricity by conserving the energy coming
from rain or running water by using water wheel turbine connected to a
generator, and also we can make electricity by wind using special devices.
 Name 3 ways we can use to preserve natural resources.
i)
ii)
iii)
Avoid using Plastic bags.
Plant a small plant or tree in an empty lot.
Do not waste paper
