Micrometer

Micrometer
The Easy Way to Learn Precision
Measuring

The micrometer is a staple in the
technical world. From NASA to
NASCAR, the use of this precision
tool is needed to keep the machines
flying.

While this device may seem quite
complicated to the casual observer, it is
really easy to master as long as you
understand one thing……..
MONEY !!!
$$$$$$$

The micrometer sections are the hardest
part to this, and even they are easy to
recognize and remember.

Take a look at this micrometer barrel
These lines
represent
pennies (one
cent)
These
numbers
represent
dollars (100
cents)
These lines
represent
quarters (25
cents)

The biggest numbers we see are:
500 Cents
14 cents
We add this up and get
589 cents!!!
75 cents
In technical terms we refer to this
as thousandths of an inch, so we have
589 thousandths





When we express thousandths of an inch, we
often express it as a decimal.
1 thousandth = .001
62 thousandths = .062
318 thousandths = .318
1 inch and 427 thousandths = 1.427
and so on……

Here,
Try one
The answer is……
738 thousandths or .738

Here are a few more for you to work on
…….

And just a few more….

Now lets test drive the real thing…

Great work! Now lets learn how to read the ten
thousandths scale .00001 now that’s small!
