This year’s Walk Across Arizona theme is tied into National Nutrition Month
and its theme. Walk Across Arizona has a nutrition component of increasing
fruit and vegetable intake as one of its 3 goals. Focusing on getting your
appropriate servings of fruits and vegetables daily is also one way of moving
away from feeling restricted or in the dieting mode.
This video Eat Right for your Lifestyle reminds us that we all have different
nutrition needs and goals. Put your best fork forward as you move your
feet forward in crossing our great state to experience the benefits of
improved health. To help you create your personal nutrition and physical
activity plan contact your RDN’s at Life & Work Connections.
Community. Will Investing in Our Community Improve Our Health?
It certainly can’t hurt. So far in our newsletters we have talked about
including our family in our daily physical activity as community. We haven’t
explored getting involved beyond home life. Volunteering also has the
capability of adding to our daily physical activities and even creates feelings
of satisfaction.
Other volunteer options include organized fundraisers which might involve
walking or running for your favorite charity or research for one of the many
diseases affecting so many around us. A 5K or 10K doesn’t even have to
involve running if running isn’t easy for you. My family and I have walked or
run in these community organized events. In the end the money from a
walker spends as well as the funds from a runner and both have gained
physical activity miles along with a sense of contribution to others.

Ride to Cure Diabetes: For bicyclists
Climb to Conquer Cancer: We missed it this year however it’s an annual
event, usually the first weekend in March, to keep in mind for next year.
Boneyard Run: or Desert Boneyard. This run usually occurs the last
weekend in October and offers a unique opportunity to catch a glimpse of
our aerospace history.
T.R.O.T.: Don’t worry if you don’t have experience with horses. I hear they
like people who can handle a shovel.
