Report Card Grading Guidelines 2016-‐17 ~ Grade 3 Achievement Scale 4 – Standard Exceeded: 95% -‐ 100% 3 – Standard Met (At Grade Level): 80% -‐ 94.9% 2 – Standard Nearly Met: 65% – 79.9% 1 – Standard Not Met Yet: 0% – 64.9% * (Not Tested) -‐ This marking is used only in math for standards that have not yet been taught/covered for that trimester. (If a student meets the standard early in the year, carry the grade across the next two trimesters. If a student does not meet the standard the first time it’s tested, retest in the following trimesters.) Effort Scores: • O – Outstanding (consistently demonstrates) • S – Satisfactory (usually demonstrates) • U – Unsatisfactory (seldom demonstrates) The following should be considered when determining a grade for effort: • Participation: class discussions, group work, partner activities, attention and focus during activities, appropriate responses to student/teacher interactions, homework completion • Quality of work produced: neatness, attention to detail, completeness, grammar and spelling • Perseverance: task initiation, task follow-‐through, consistency, academic endurance Response to feedback: accepts feedback from others Reading Vocabulary Understands and uses new vocabulary Phonics and Word Recognition Decodes unfamiliar/multisyllabic words • • • • • • • Using the achievement scales noted above, consider the following items from Treasures to factor into the vocabulary grade: Foundational Skills on Enterprise STAR Reading assessment Oral reading Writing Treasures Standards Practice and Benchmark Assessment, Decoding and Word Recognition 1.1-‐1.2 Treasures student Practice Book phonics/word study pages BPST High Frequency Words List Using the achievement scales noted above, consider the following from Treasures to factor into the comprehension grade: • • Daily Assessments Weekly Assessments Selection Tests • • Summative Tests • • Treasures student Practice Book Vocabulary pages Vocabulary Acquisition and Use on Enterprise STAR Reading assessment Treasures Standards Practice and Benchmark Assessment, Vocabulary and Concept Development 1.4-‐1.8 Comprehension Uses Comprehension Strategies/Skills Recalls/Analyzes Key Points • • • • Daily Assessments, Weekly Assessments, Selection Tests, Summative Assessments Additional data can be gathered from AR Weekly Quizzes. Critical Areas in Math The Common Core specifies critical areas for instructional emphasis at each grade level. The critical areas in math for 3rd grade are as follows: • Developing understanding of multiplication and division and strategies for multiplication and division within 100. (These are emphasized in Go Math! chapters 3-‐7.) • Developing understanding of fractions, especially unit fractions. (This is emphasized in Go Math! chapters 7-‐9.) • Developing understanding of the structure of rectangular arrays and of area. (These are emphasized in Go Math! chapter 11.) • Describing and analyzing two-‐dimensional shapes. (This is emphasized in Go Math! chapter 12.)
