SHEPHERD’S CORNER….Cameron Davis
Please Consider These Things:
Luke 2 (ESV) The Birth of Jesus Christ 2 In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world
should be registered. 2 This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3 And all went to be registered, each to his own town. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of
David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his
betrothed, who was with child. 6 And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her
firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in
the inn.
Genesis 1 (ESV) The Creation of the World
1
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
1
John 1(ESV) The Word Became Flesh
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word
was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not anything
made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men…….14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt
among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Hebrews 1(ESV) The Supremacy of God's Son 1 Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers
by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things,
through whom also he created the world. 3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and
he upholds the universe by the word of his power.
44
Luke 23:44-46 (ESV) The Death of Jesus
It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole
land until the ninth hour, while the sun's light failed. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. 46 Then Jesus, calling
out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last.
Luke 24 (ESV) The Resurrection
not here, but has risen.
5
……..the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? 6 He is
Today the world is celebrating what is commonly known as Christmas. I am not going to debate that we can, should or
shouldn’t celebrate it. Everyone seems to have their opinion staked out very well. Many will quote Galatians 4 in their
rebuke of celebrating Christmas etc. I think many miss the point…..as Christians everything we do must amplify Christ
and edify one another! All the passages above point to Jesus. Our entire focus should be Jesus! His birthday is no more
important than any other day. Every day He walked on this earth was a special day. Don’t you imagine the blind man
can tell exactly the day that he was healed? While it was certainly an important day, I imagine the now healed blind man
worshipped Jesus every day from then on! I am sure all the folks Jesus healed, that truly understood who He was and
what He did, constantly did so too. So while many give gifts, sing praises, think and do kind benevolent deeds during this
season, we must remember Christ for who He is today in our life. His birth is important, but no more than His sinless life,
His giving himself on the cross, His glorious resurrection, ascension and God’s great mercy and grace shown to us
through Christ. That is something to celebrate for sure! But remember Jesus every day in how we live and that we present Christ in all we do. So I guess what I am saying is this, it should be Christmas day every day for you and me. While
we may not give gift wrapped things to each other every day, I can show love to you, help you in times of need, pray for
you daily, help you remember that we are part of the family of God through Christ’s shed blood. Now that is something to
celebrate. Pray for each other that we carry forward every day the good things done, thought and said in these times.
Pray that we grow in personal strength, faith and knowledge, and that it produces more Christians in our community.
Let’s all pray for a great 2017 and let’s get started today to show Christ more.

THE MARVELOUS WORKS OF JESUS
JOHN 20:30, 31
INTRODUCTION: In our series “Focusing on Jesus,” we have examined The Virgin Birth of Jesus,
The Sinless Life of Jesus, and The Wonderful Words of Jesus. Today, we will take a close
look at The Marvelous Works of Jesus.
I. WHAT IS A ________________?
A. Three words are used in Scripture to describe these works:
1. Mighty work, miracle—refers to the ___________ by which the work is done—
divine power!
2. Wonder—describes the ___________ the work had on the people who saw it.3
3. Sign—refers to the meaning or _______________ of the work.
B. See Acts 2:22; Hebrews 2:4.
II. THE NATURE OF JESUS’ MIRACLES
A. The gospel ____________ do not pretend to record everything Jesus did (John
21:25).
B. There are many places that the miracles are _________________ (Matthew 4:23–
25; 9:35; Mark 1:32–34; 3:7–12; 6:53–56; John 2:23).
C. Jesus displayed power over: _________ (Mark 2:3–12); __________ (Matthew
12:22); __________ (John 11:39–44); ______________ (Mark 4:36–41).
III. THE PURPOSE OF JESUS’ MIRACLES
A. Jesus did not use His power for _____________ ends—cf. Matthew 4:1–11.
B. Jesus referred to His "works" as abundant testimony to substantiate His
___________ (Matthew 11:2–6; John 5:36; 10:24, 25, 32, 37, 38).
C. Others recognized the works of Jesus as having the same value and _________
(John 3:2; 7:31).
D. The inspired Bible writers appealed to these works as _____________ that God had
approved of Jesus (John 20:30, 31; Acts 2:22).
CONCLUSION: We can be assured that Jesus is the Son of God, for “no man could do these
works except God be with Him!”

CHASE’S COMMENTS...
The Unopened Christmas Present
ADDRESS UPDATE: Kayla & Audrey Martin, 59 Town
Park, Mtn. Home.
How strange would it be on Christmas morning if everyone woke
up, they ran to the tree and then never opened their presents?
We all know that gifts are not what make Christmas important
but they are a large part of our holiday traditions.
JANUARY BIRTHDAYS
There is a Christmas story from history of an unopened gift not
many know that holds an important lesson for us as Christians.

General George Washington had known nothing but defeat in
the American Revolution until the famous victory at Trenton on
Christmas Day night, 1776. Every school child knows how
Washington attacked the Hessians unawares and defeated
them. But what is not so well known is that the commanding officer at Trenton, Colonel Gottlieb Rall, had been warned of
Washington's surprise attack. The evening before, Colonel Rall
had been passed a note by a Tory farmer of the impending attack. Yet he put the note aside unread as he played chess
[some accounts say cards] and drank with other officers. Colonel
Rall was mortally wounded in the battle, and the note of warning was
later found in his pocket. . . unopened.
God has given us the best gift available teaching us how to live;
yet His Word often lies unread at our fingertips. It bulges with
both promises and warnings. The promises inspire us and refresh us to take courage. The warnings are like flashing red
lights that stop us in our self-destructive paths. How foolish to
ignore the cautions of God's Word that would detour us from self
-destruction and to leave His gift unopened.
"Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and
blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in
it…” (Revelation 1:3)
