The NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is an integral part of the NHS. Operating a network of
centres across England, we collect around 2 million units of blood and tissues per year, converting
them into safe and effective blood components, blood and tissue products for use in the treatments
of patients.
Our Healthcare Scientists provide crucial support to NHS Hospitals, processing, testing and issuing
blood and its components and delivering diagnostic and therapeutic services relating to the
transfusion of blood and stem cells, transplantation and tissue banking.
The H&I laboratory in Filton provides a centralised comprehensive H&I service to stem cell referral
units and hospitals requiring platelet and granulocyte investigations. You will play an important role
in contributing to a clinical laboratory service, performing, analysing and interpreting a wide range of
routine and specialist/complex scientific and technical procedures and investigations relating to the
issue of results for transplant patients and donors impacting directly on patient care. In addition you
will be involved with the urgent supply of selected platelet units, provide advice to clinicians and
contribute to the coordination and supervision of the work, training and conduct of scientific and
support staff.
We are looking for two HCPC registered Clinical Scientists with extensive post registration
experience in the field of histocompatibility and immunogenetics with a relevant post graduate
qualification. You will have the ability to work to a high degree of accuracy and precision and be able
to work on your own initiative and as part of a team in an environment of changing pressures and
practices.
The laboratory is at the forefront of scientific research with a progressive approach and has close
clinical links with 3 stem cell transplantation units and the onsite stem cell processing and
International Blood Group Reference Laboratory research department.
