10.20.010 Color Codes and General Meanings:

The City of Dillon establishes the following color code and general meanings for
conveying traffic control information. The colors for curb and pavement markings shall
conform to the color standards as follows:
a.
Red: Parking is not allowed in areas set off by red curb or pavement.
b.
Blue: Only disabled persons with lawful placards, plates, or like means of
identification may park in areas set off by blue curb or pavement.
c.
Yellow: Only brief parking for purposes of unloading persons or property may
occur in areas set off by yellow curb or pavement; any vehicle parked briefly
within an area set off by yellow curb or pavement must be attended by a person
who can lawfully drive the vehicle so parked on the highways of the State of
Montana.
d.
Green: Persons may park for not longer than 15 minutes in areas set off by green
curb or pavement.
e.
Brown: Brown curb or pavement indicates points of recreational or cultural
interest.
f.
Orange: Orange curb or pavement indicates construction or maintenance is
occurring nearby.
g.
White: The color white is painted on curbs or pavement to denote individual
parking spaces.

Although the colors red, blue, yellow, green, brown, orange and white as
described herein may be used as official traffic control devices, the absence of
those colors on an area of curb or pavement, or the absence of any other traffic
control device, does not constitute a defense to a violation of any section in DMC
Title 10 unless:

the violation is charged under DMC § 10.12.040(1)(p) or DMC §
10.45.025, and
the person charged with the violation proves, by a preponderance of the
evidence, that no official traffic control devices were placed or visible
such that a reasonable person would have known or should have known
that the violation could result from the instance of parking forming the
basis of the violation.
The defense set forth in DMC § 10.20.010(2)(a)(ii) is an affirmative defense to a
charge otherwise proven beyond a reasonable doubt under DMC §
10.12.040(1)(p) or DMC § 10.45.025.
Pursuant to MCA §§ 49-4-302 and 49-4-307, any individual parking space which is
reserved for a person with a disability must be designated by a sign which:

a.

contains the international symbol of accessibility by showing a stick-figure
depiction of a person seated in a wheelchair,
states that a handicapped parking permit is required,
states the $100.00 penalty for unlawful parking in a space reserved for a disabled
person, and
is positioned in such a way that it (the sign) will not be obstructed by a vehicle
parked in the individual parking space to which it (the sign) applies.
