1. Exchange papers with a partner
2. Choose a different color for each of the following criteria:
o Physical description of writer’s subject (i.e. Mrs. Flowers for Angelou)
o Personality of writer’s subject
o Use of dialogue
o Use of sensory details (senses)
o Use of figurative language (simile, metaphor, personification, allusion)
o Also, choose a color for when the writer’s story goes from general storytelling, to a
specific day/moment.
3. On the writer’s paper, highlight each instance of the above criteria in the designated color.
4. In the designated color, indicate with a star where in the writer’s story it goes from general to
specific.
5. On separate paper, create a legend for your color choices.
6. For each of the criteria, say whether the writer was effective in their usage, or not.
7. List three constructive criticisms of the narrative.
