Christmas Day second collection for the restoration of our church.
Charities at Christmas: Friends of the Holy Land.
The bishop has asked us to donate crib offerings: The Christian poor in the Holy Land are having a very
bad time, which does not get much publicity. See www.friendsoftheholyland.org.uk . Put your donations
into the Poor Box: anything given during Christmastide will go to the Holy Land, including money from
egg sales.
The Advent Carol Service
Thanks you to all who took part, and Mary Johnson for organising tombola; and to Trish and Jane for
mince pies and mulled wine. There is an unclaimed raffle prize – pink 294! It is in Kathryn’s office.
Message from HRH The Prince of Wales describing the “evil” of religious persecution today.
The Prince’s message was inspired by Aid to the Church in Need’s recently released Religious Freedom
in the World 2016 Report www.acnuk.org/news.php/673/religious-hatred-threatens-survival-of-minoritygroups-report-warns. Prince Charles goes on to highlight the report’s key finding that extremism is
seeking to eliminate all types of religious diversity. He speaks out against the persecution of Christians,
Yazidis, Jews, Ahmadis, Baha’is and other groups and stresses how for some people religious freedom is
a daily stark choice between life and death. The Prince, who has also made a video recording of his
message exclusively for Aid to the Church in Need www.acnuk.org/hrhprincecharlesmessage, opens his
remarks by giving an account of how, at a meeting to discuss the report’s findings, he received a firsthand account of persecution from Syria-based Jesuit priest Father Ziad Hilal.
Referring to how the new-born Jesus Christ and his family fled persecution – as did the Prophet
Mohammed more than six centuries later – the Prince concludes his message by paying tribute to
minority faith groups who today are seeking sanctuary abroad.
Fundraising Ideas for the Church Restoration - Please see Kathryn for more info
Easyfundraising is much the easiest way to raise money if only a good sized group will take it on for
anything bought on line. Do please consider whether you might take part and talk to Fr Leo or Kathryn to
find out how to do it.
Lost property
As well as an earring found in the Hall, Kathryn has found Whisky and soap on her desk. Not sure if this
was supposed to be a raffle prize, or a Christmas present, or a hint. Please advise!
Rotas: Many thanks for all you do.
Offertory Collections and other Charities: Many thanks to all who contribute

Thank you for the collection on 18 December of £576.62
The Raffle raised £202.03 for the Restoration of the Church – many thanks!
Red Wednesday
Aid to the Church in Need have written to wish you all a happy and blessed Advent and Christmas and
with sincere thanks for our solidarity. See #RedWednesday. Houses of Parliament, Westminster
Cathedral, Westminster Abbey – and St John the Evangelist were all floodlit in red.
Telephones.
With Fr George’s arrival we needed a better telephone system. It should now be working: just follow the
instructions. If the person you want is not available, leave a message: they will see it when they return. Fr
George will be away for Christmas week and will return even more full of vigour on 2 January.
Welcome Packs: Introduce yourselves to new neighbours!
Our Leaflet is included with information from the other churches, and they are distributed to new families
in the town. If you are aware of new neighbours, please take one of the packs from the porch, or contact
Michael Wansborough on 822166, as he will let you have one.
