Beast and 666 - Desire Media

One of the greatest stories of faith found in the Bible is the story of
“Beast and 666”
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. In this story, three followers of the true
God stand firm in obedience to their God, even if it might mean their death.
They aretold they must bow to an image of gold because the king commanded
them to. But the God they served had commanded His people not to bow to
any image. They choose to obey God, instead of the king, and God is pleased.
Even though they are thrown into a fiery furnace, God saves them out of that
furnace and His name is honored.
The book of Revelation refers to stories like this
when it talks about a Beast, an image, and a mark. In the
13th chapter, which talks about events that will happen in
the last days, there is a Beast (or a power) who makes an
image and demands worship. This Beast tries to enforce a law to worship his
image by establishing a mark, which is a sign of his authority.
The Bible tells us that something similar to what happened with
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, is going to happen again to God’s end
time people. The question is, who is this Beast in Revelation, and what is his
mark? In order to know what the mark of the Beast is, we must first find out
who the Beast is. Let’s begin this lesson:
1. Who does Revelation say will get a mark in the last days?
Answer: Rev 7:2-3 I saw another angel having the seal of the
living God, saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the
trees, till we have ______________ the servants of
our God in their foreheads.
Rev 13:16,17 He causes all…to receive a
________ in their right hand or in their foreheads
that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the
mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
Everybody in Revelation gets marked, not just the wicked. The servants of God
are sealed in their foreheads, while the wicked receive a mark in their right
hand or in their forehead. The Bible tells us that the hand symbolizes the
actions, and the forehead symbolizes the mind or desires.
(Ecclesiastes 9:10, Isaiah 59:6, Deuteronomy 6:6-8)

2. What is the seal that the righteous have?
Answer: Isa 8:16 Bind up the testimony, seal
the _________ among my disciples.
God’s seal is found in law.
3. Where in God’s law can we find His seal?
Ten Bible points that help identify who the Beast is:
Answer: Exo 20:11 For in six days the LORD
made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in
them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore
the LORD blessed the _______________ day.
Eze 20:20 Hallow my Sabbaths and they shall be a ___________
between Me and you.
There are 3 parts to the presidential seal, and most other seals. The 3 parts
are: Name, office, and territory. In God’s law, right in the 4th commandment,
are the same 3 parts: His name:The Lord God, His office:Creator, and His
territory:Heaven and Earth. This seal is found in the Sabbath commandment.
The Sabbath is to be a sign between God and His people.
4. Does Revelation call us back to this sign or seal?
Answer: Rev 14:7 … Fear God, and give glory to
him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and
worship him that __________ heaven, and earth, and the sea.
Here is a direct quote from the Sabbath commandment to worship Him who
made or created all things. It’s a call to keep the memorial of His creation.
5. What is the mark of the beast?
Answer: Rev 14:9-10 If any man _____________ the
beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, the same shall drink of the
wine of the wrath of God.
Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here
are they that keep the commandments of __________ and the
faith of Jesus.
If any man worships the image that the Beast has established, he accepts the
mark of the Beast’s authority. The Beast shall enforce a law that is contrary to
God’s law. Anyone who accepts this law will receive the mark of the Beast.
Those who don’t accept the mark are called “the saints…who keep the
commandments of God.” This last day test will be all about God’s law versus
man’s law.
In order to know what the Mark of the Beast is, we must first identify who
the Beast is. Below are 10 Bible points that help us identify this Beast.
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
King, Kingdom, political power 6. Receives a deadly wound that heals.
Rises from the sea
7. Persecutes God’s saints.
Becomes a worldwide power.
8. Led by one supreme man.
Guilty of blasphemy
9. Has the mysterious number 666
Rules for 42 prophetic months
10. Forces all to receive a “Mark”.
The rest of this lesson will be dedicated to answering the first nine Bible
points listed above. The next lesson, lesson 7, will be dedicated to the 10th
point which will tell us exactly what the Beast’s mark is.
6. What does a Beast represent in the Bible?
Answer: Dan 7:17, 23 These great beasts which
are four, are four ____________.
The fourth beast shall be the fourth _________________ .
A beast in prophecy represents a king or kingdom, or a political power.
All the great reformers have identified this Beast as the Roman Catholic
Papacy. Below are just a few quotes taken from the protestant reformers:
Protestant reformer’s quotes regarding the Roman Catholic Papacy:
Thomas Cranmer “Whereof it followeth Rome to be the seat of antichrist, and the pope to
be very antichrist himself.”
John Wesley“He is … the Man of Sin..the Son of Perdition, …claiming the prerogatives
which belong to God alone.”
Martin Luther “We here are of the conviction that the papacy is the seat of the true and real
Antichrist.”
John Calvin (Presbyterian): “…we call the Roman pontiff Antichrist.”
Roger Williams (1st Baptist Pastor in America): … he is the son of perdition
(II Thess. 2).”
John Knox.. “the very antichrist, and son of perdition, of whom Paul speaks.” — The Zurich
Letters, by John Knox, pg. 199.
7. Where does this Beast come from?
Answer: Rev 13:1 I stood upon the sand of the sea
and saw a beast rise up out of the ________.
Rev 17:15 The waters which you saw are
______________, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.
This Beast rises up out of the sea, which represents peoples, multitudes and
nations. This means he arises from among an existing center of population.
Before the nation of Rome fell, the Emperor set up the Bishop of Rome as
head of the church. “To the succession of the Caesars, came the succession of the Pontiffs
in Rome. Constantine gave his seat to the Pontiff” Labianca, Professor, University of Rome
8. How far does the Beast’s authority reach?
11. What happened to the Beast after the 42 months?
Answer: Rev 13:3 And all the _____________
Answer: Rev 13:3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded
wondered after the beast.
to ___________ and his deadly wound was healed.
All the world will wonder after the Beast. Of the 2.2 billion Christians
worldwide, more than half are Catholic. The word Catholic means Universal.
When you add 1260 years to 538 AD, it comes to 1798. Was the Pope
wounded to death in 1798? And did his wound heal? “Alexander’s (the great)
General Berthier …made his entrance into Rome, (in 1798) Abolished the Papal government
and established a secular one.” Encyclopedia Americana 1941
9. What boastful claim does the Beast make?
Answer: Rev 13:6 He opened his mouth in __________________
against God, to blaspheme his name.
He took the pope captive, who later died in jail. Then, 131 years later, the
pope was reinstated back into his office, when Mussolini and Cardinal
Gasparri signed the Lateran treaty making Vatican City an independent
Nation.
The Bible gives two definitions for the word blasphemy: a man assuming the
place of God, or a man to claiming the right to forgive sin. See these texts:
John 10:33 For a good work we stone you not; but for
blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself
God.
Luke 5:21 Who is this which speaks blasphemies?
Who can forgive sins, but God alone?
Here are just a few quotes from the Catholic Church’s doctrine regarding the
position of the Pope:
“The Pope is of so great dignity and so exalted that he is not a mere man, but as it were God.”
Prompta Bibliotheca, Vol. VI, pp. 25-29
“God Himself is obliged to abide by the judgment of His Priest and either not pardon or to
pardon according as they refuse or give absolution…The sentence of the priest precedes, and
God subscribes to it.” Dignities and Duties of the Priest, vol. 12, p. 27
The words “Healing the wound” were used in the headlines to describe what happened when
the pope was reinstated in his own sovereign state. San Francisco Chronicle, Feb. 11, 1929
12. What does the Beast do to God’s saints?
Answer: Rev 13:7 And it was given unto him
to make _______with the saints, and to
overcome them.
10. How long will this Beast rule?
In order to silence “Heretics” the Roman Catholic Church made war, or
persecuted, God’s true saints. It is estimated that the church martyred more
than 50 million “heretics” during the dark ages. (See Foxes Book of Martyrs)
Answer: Rev 13:5 And power was given unto
13. Does the Beast have a single man at its head?
him to continue forty and two _____________.
Answer: Rev 13:18 count the number of the
There are 30 days in each Jewish month. In Bible prophecy, a day equals a
year, so 42 prophetic months would equal 1260 years. When did the Pope
begin his reign? “In 538 AD Emperor Justinian set a legal decree making the Bishop of
Rome head over all the churches, the definer of doctrine and the corrector of heretics.”
“Vigilius…ascended the papal chair (538 AD) under the military protection of Belisarius.” History
of the Christian Church, vol. 3, p. 327
beast: for it is the number of a _______.
The Roman Catholic Church is headed by one single man,
the Pope. The church claims that he stands in God’s place.
“The Pope is of so great authority and power that he can modify..divine law, since his
power is not of man, but of God," Lucius Ferraris, "Prompta Bibliotheca", Papa, II,
Vol. VI, p. 29
14. What is the Beast’s mysterious number, 666?
Answer: Rev 13:18 It is the number of a man; and his number is
______ hundred threescore and six.
This is the number of the name found on the 3 tiered crown the Popes used to
wear. The Latin name has a numeric value that equals six hundred sixty six,
or 666.
“The letters on the Pope’s crown are these: Vicarius Filii Dei: Vicar of the Son of God”
Our Sunday Visitor, April 18, 1915
Latin numeral values:
I=1
V=5
X=10
L=50
C=100
D=500
U=5 always written as “V”
