Teen Technology Use and Misuse: What Parents Need to Know
This presentation will cover an overview of some of the ways teens are using and misusing technology. It
will describe many of the online environments popular among adolescents today and strategies to use to
make sure they are used safely and responsibly. The goal is to encourage and empower youth to act with
integrity online, no matter what site or app they are using.

Learning to read begins before children start school and your local library can help you prepare. Leslie LaRose, director of the Augusta Memorial Public Library, will walk you through simple, fun activities you can do with your preschooler to help develop early
literacy skills.

According to the National Institute on Mental Health, 1 in 5 children will experience some form of mental illness during their lifetime, with anxiety and depression among the most common disorders. While it is normal for children to experience occasional
worry and sadness, how can you know if your child is experiencing something more serious? In this session, you will learn: 1) How
to identify risk factors, 2) How to recognize warning signs, 3) The impact anxiety & depression have on the body, brain, and behavior, 4) Strategies to manage anxiety and depression at home, and 5) When to seek professional help.

Understanding Your Child’s IEP Angela Axelrod (School Psychologist at Augusta Area School District), Kati Meyer (Special Education Teacher at Augusta High School) and Natalie Schael (Student Teacher at Augusta High School)
During this session IEP terms and the IEP process will be clarified. In addition, Special Education staff will answer questions about parent involvement in the IEP and how to make the most of your child’s IEP.

Depression and Anxiety in Adults...Yes, It's a Real Thing!

Did you know that 1 in 5 adults experience a mental illness in a year? Did you know that 1 in 25 adults experience a serious mental illness in a
given year that substantially interferes with or limits one or more major life activities? Did you know that only 41% of adults with a mental health
condition received mental health services in the past year? Among adults with a serious mental illness, 63% received mental health services in
the past year. Did you know that anxiety disorders are the most common mental health concern in the United States? An estimated 40 million
adults have an anxiety disorder. So many people refuse to get help with mental illness due to the stigma that has been attached. This workshop
will help you know the signs of depression and anxiety and teach you when and where to get help. We will try to answer any questions you may
have and provide ways for you to assist others who may need help but are unable to get it for themselves.
How to Dramatically Increase Your Opportunities of Raising Happy, Healthy, and Successful Children

This presentation shares some exciting and relevant information on the 40 developmental assets. The Search Institute, a youth research foundation, has found 40 common traits or building blocks that will increase the opportunities that you will raise happy, healthy and successful children. Practical parenting strategies will also be discussed to assist in attaining those assets. Very informative and practical for ANY parent!

Teen Driving: What Parents Need to Know

This session will explain to parents what their student needs to know in order to obtain a temporary permit or driver's license and the restrictions
imposed by the state for both. We will also discuss the role parents play in teaching the student about driving including state expectations. We
will explain teen driving risks and the parent's sponsorship liability when it comes to your teen driving. Included will be a sponsorship liability
brochure from the law firm of Richie, Wickstrom, and Wachs, LLP. We will also discuss ways you may be able to save on car insurance, apps and
in car devices for teen driving and what you can expect from your teen driver.
