Saskatoon Novice chefs put their best dish forward at the Novice Warm your Heart Soup
Cook-Off
Saskatoon - PotashCorp WinterShines, Saskatoon's premiere winter festival, runs from January 25 through
February 2, 2014 at Saskatoon Farmers’ Market and various locations all around Saskatoon, PotashCorp
WinterShines will feature both a Novice and Professional soup cook-off by some of Saskatoon’s finest chefs.
“There’s nothing like a tasty bowl of soup on winter’s day and you can enjoy a bunch of them at one place at the
PotashCorp Wintershines 2014 Soup Cook-Off”, says Kim Newlove, Soup Cook Off Volunteer Chair “Some of the
finest, home-made soups will be offered by both professional and novice chefs. Everyone can attend and for a$5
fee, sample the soups and vote for their favourite. It’s a fun and tasty event with a portion of the proceeds
benefiting the Heart and Stroke Foundation.”
According to Anthony McCarthy, President of the Canadian Culinary Federation Saskatoon Branch, “It’s
winter! And this is a time the gloves come off as the chefs prepare to do battle! Our best chefs are ready to throw
down the ladles and see who's got what it takes to win the most coveted prize of the year, the 2013 Saskatoon
Soup Master title”.
Novice Chef Soup Cook-Off
• Sunday, January 26 from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
• Saskatoon Market Square
• Cost: $5/person
• Novice chefs compete against each other for the honour to move on to the Professional Chef Warm the
Heart Soup Cook-off.
PotashCorp WinterShines 2014 activities are centered at the Market Square around the Saskatoon Farmers Market,
but a variety of events will also take place at multiple locations around Saskatoon.

You are invited to participate in the
Warm the Heart Novice Chef Soup Cook-Off
Part of PotashCorp Wintershines Festival 2014. Novice Chefs serve up their best soup to
the general public as well as to professional chefs who will be judging this competition.

3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Saskatoon Farmers’ Market
Table, linen, signage, bread, napkins, soup cups and spoons will be provided. In addition, a
$50 honourarium will be provided to cover the costs of supplies needed for the soup.
Eligibility for this event is based on the first 10 applicants to register. The winner will have
the honour to move on to the Professional Chef Warm the Heart Cook-off on Wednesday,
January 29 from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Both Soup Cook-offs are open to the public at a cost of
$5.00/person for one sample of each chef’s soup, with a portion of the proceeds going to
the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Register by Friday, January 17, 2014.
