GENERAL – SHERWOOD FOREST HOSPITALS NHS FOUNDATION TRUST
Nottinghamshire is a county situated at the heart of England, and known
throughout the world as the legendary home of Robin Hood. From the quiet
market towns and rolling fields of rural Nottinghamshire, to the shopping and
nightlife of the cosmopolitan City of Nottingham, this is a county of contrasts and
surprises.
The Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust catchment area
comprises the central and northern areas of Nottinghamshire. The main towns
in the area are Mansfield and Sutton in Ashfield in the South-West, Worksop in
the North-West, East Retford in the North-East and Newark and Southwell in the
South-East. Textiles, light engineering and, to a diminishing extent, mining, are
the main industries in the Mansfield and Ashfield district, with the remainder of
the area being predominantly rural.
There is a wide range of good quality housing available at reasonable prices.
Social, cultural and sporting activities are in plentiful supply, and there is an
excellent choice of schools.
Mansfield lies between the M1 motorway to the west and the A1 to the east.
Newark is approximately 20 miles South-East of Mansfield. The major cities of
Nottingham and Sheffield are within easy reach, as is the Peak District of
Derbyshire. Frequent and rapid rail services to London and elsewhere are
available from Newark, Mansfield and Nottingham. The local East Midlands
Airport provides regular national and international flights.
