OBJECTIVE
To teach the children to distinguish and measure the length and width of a rectangle. To increase speed of recall
for doubles plus one addition facts.
TEACHING
Do Lesson 16, pgs. 87–92 of Teacher’s Manual.
ALERT: You may need to emphasize the point that some, some more stories use addition because at the
end the answer to the question is a larger number than the number of items at the beginning of the
story. Similarly, the some, some went away stories use subtraction because the answer to the question
will be a smaller number than the number of items at the beginning of the story.

OBJECTIVE
To teach the children various ways to divide squares into 2, 4, and 8 equal parts and identify the parts with the
appropriate fractions. To increase speed of recall for facts.
TEACHING
Do Lesson 17, pgs. 93–98 of Teacher’s Manual.
ALERT: You may want to point out to the children that the number of parts that the square is divided into
is the bottom number of the fraction, the denominator. The top number of the fraction is the number of
those parts that are being talked about. For example, if the number of shaded parts are 3 then the top
number of the fraction will be 3.
