Poppy presentation

Protagonist and Antagonist
• Poppy is the heroine of the story because she took the risk of
dying and traveled all the way to New House in the hopes of
figuring out what Mr. Ocax was hiding there or what he was
scared of. She even met her fear-porcupines- and didn’t run
away, she talked to him (Ereth) and later found out that Mr.
Ocax lied and discovered that porcupines aren’t predators.
• Mr.Ocax is the Antagonist in this story because he tries to rule
the mice and he has to have power over them but the truth is
that he is just a scared owl that wants to be the center of
things.

Mr. Ocax is a devious owl. He is also very scary and he is worried because he may loose
control over the mice. But, he is also scared because of the fake owl on New House.
Lungwort is very strict and is scared of Mr. Ocax. Sometimes he is kin of rude to Poppy. He is
a little over confident (like when he and Poppy went to go ask Mr. Ocax for permission to
move to New House) and when he is, he ends up going to his study to cry.
Sweet Cicely is kind and she supported Poppy. Also when Lungwort was upset that they
couldn’t move to new house and he was upset at Poppy, poppy was afraid to talk to him and
Sweet Cicely calmed her down.
Ragweed was a very adventurous mouse. But sometimes he wouldn’t listen to anybody no
matter what. He was always going by his own rules.
Basil is supportive of Poppy no matter what . She is a very loving and sweet.
Ereth is very helpful to Poppy. He also has a good humor. Ereth knows what he wants and he
will be disappointed if someone doesn’t come through.

Conflict
The type of conflict in the book Poppy was
Man vs. Man. The reason it was
Man vs. Man was because the whole story was based
on the relationship between Poppy and Mr. Ocax. One
example of the conflict is when Mr.Ocaxs jumps out at
Poppy and tries to eat her. This proves that the
conflict is Man vs. Man because it shows that Mr.Ocax
wants to hurt her and poppy is afraid of him.
Foreshadowing
• One example of foreshadowing in Poppy is when
Poppy and Lungwort went to ask Mr.Ocax for
permission to move. It was foreshadowing because
the moon had disappeared behind the clouds
which meant(in the book) that it was going to rain.
No stars were visible and the air felt heavy and in
the darkness, Poppy didn’t know which way to go.
• You can find this example of foreshadowing in the
book on page forty-one.
Setting
• The book took place in present time (Anytime
you want it to take place).
• It took place in Dimwood forest region.
• The places in Dimwood forest region include New

Climax
• The climax is when Poppy and Mr.Ocax get
in a fight. It was the climax because it was
all leading up to the point when Poppy
sticks up for herself. She finally kills Mr.
Ocax and discovers his secrets/fear.
Point of view
• The point of view in Poppy is a narrator’s point
of view because you can tell that the narrator
is telling the story because if the story because
if the story was told by say Poppy’s point of
view it would say things like I or Me.
Similes
• One example of a simile is when Avi
wrote, … and thrust his claws forward
and wide like grappling hooks .
• This is a simile because Avi is comparing
his claws with grappling hooks.
• This example of a simile is found in the
book on page six.
Onomatopoeia
• One example of onomatopoeia is
when Avi wrote whoo-whoo on
page eight.
• It is a onomatopoeia because it is not
