W H AT ' S HAZARDOUS
I N YO U R H O M E ?
Orange County Utilities offers residents* the chance to safely dispose of household
hazardous waste (HHW) and electronic waste free of charge. Many household products
contain dangerous chemicals that require special handling. If not correctly disposed
of, these chemicals can be harmful to humans, animals, and the environment.
To help ensure these items are handled correctly, Orange County Utilities holds four HHW community
collection events each year and provides two permanent HHW collection facilities for the proper disposal
of HHW and recycling of electronic waste:

A product may be hazardous if the label includes any of the following words: PESTICIDE, CAUSTIC, ACID, POISON,
FLAMMABLE, WARNING, or DANGER. Please do not bring the following items: BIOLOGICALLY ACTIVE MATERIALS,
RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS, EXPLOSIVES, AMMUNITION, FIREWORKS, EMERGENCY FLARES, PRESCRIPTION DRUGS,
and PRESSURIZED CYLINDERS.
Please do not bring items such as video games, cords and wires, lamps, vacuum cleaners,
and kitchen appliances, as they are not considered household hazardous or electronic
waste and should be disposed of as garbage or reused. An item is considered an
electronic if it contains a circuit board.
Examples of electronics accepted include: FLAT SCREEN TVs (REAR-PROJECTION TVs
ARE NOT ACCEPTED), COMPUTERS, MONITORS, CELL PHONES, and DVD PLAYERS.
*Eligible participants include residents of unincorporated Orange County and the cities of Apopka, Ocoee, Orlando,
Windermere, and Winter Garden only. Proof of residency required.
Your Yard Waste Collection Questions Answered!
When is yard waste
collected?
Yard waste collection is
provided every Wednesday.
To ensure proper collection,
place yard waste at the curb
after 6:00 p.m. the night
before or no later than 6:00
a.m. on Wednesday.
What type of container
should I use for yard waste
collection?
Use waterproof containers
with tight-fitting lids and
handles on the sides, or bags.
Each bag or container should
weigh less than 60 pounds
when full.
How much yard waste can I set out each week?
Residents may set out up to three cubic yards per household
each week. This is equal to about the size of one small pickup
truck load.
How should limbs and palm
fronds be set out for collection?
Limbs and palm fronds should be
bundled with string or twine, be no
longer than 3 feet in length, and
bundles should weigh less than
60 pounds each. The limbs
and palm fronds may
also be cut down and
placed into containers
or plastic bags which
must weigh less
than 60 pounds
when full.
