Head Coach – Danny Short
Danny has been appointed the Head Coach for the Australian Life Saving Teams Rescue ’14
campaign. He has represented Australia three times as an athlete and has been coaching the
Australian Life Saving Team for the past 10 years. He hails from Maroochydore SLSC and
his thoughts on the Teams motto of Pride, Mateship and Passion is doing everything in your
power to support your team mates in good times and bad.
Team Manager – Keith Caldwell
Keith is the Australian Life Saving Team Manager. He has previously represented NSW as
an athlete and has managed Nutri Grain Teams, NSW Teams and has been Team Manager
of various Australian Lifesaving Teams eight times. Keith describes Pride, Mateship and
Passion as exactly what it means to be in a team environment.
Assistant Coach – Wade Sinclair
Wade has been appointed as the Assistant Coach for the Australian Life Saving Team for
2014.Wade has also been the Teams Sport Scientist five times and twice as the Australian
Lifesaving Development Team Head Coach. He currently lectures at James Cook University
in the Institute of Sport and Exercise Science and is an active member of Picnic Bay SLSC.
Beach Coach – Martin Lynch
Martin (Marty) is the Australian Life Saving Team Beach Coach. His role is to assist in all
beach events, ensuring athletes are performing at their best. Marty has coached three
individual world gold medallists and 16 Aussies individual medallists. He is a dental surgeon
by trade and as a Masters athlete, and the Newport clubbie has won an incredible 32 Aussie
and 14 World gold medals.
Physiotherapist – Nick Marshall
Nick is the Australian Life Saving Team Physiotherapist for Rescue ’14. He has been the
QLD team physio since 2000, the Australian Olympic kayaking physio leading into the 2012
London Games and has been the Australian Team physio since 2006. Nick was a part of the
Australian marathon swim team in 1995 and holds the QLD record in the 25km open water
swim, which he achieved in 1996.

Shannon Eckstein
Shannon has been appointed the Australian Life Saving team captain for Rescue ’14. From
Northcliffe SLSC, Shannon is an eight times Kellogs Nutri Grain Ironman Champion, a six
time Australian Open Ironman Champion and a four times World Ironman Champion.
Shannon has won 33 Aussie Gold medals and possesses numerous Australian team caps.
Pride, Mateship and Passion to Shannon, means giving everything for your team.
Tim Schofield
Tim, a member of Terrigal SLSC and the Hills Lifesaving Club is looking forward to
representing Australia in the 2014 Australian Life Saving Team. Tim also represented
Australia the 2011 and 2013 RLSS Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships, the 2012
World Lifesaving Championships and played a pivotal role in Australia’s 2013 German Cup
campaign. Tim broke records in 200 Obstacles and the 50m and 100m Manikin Carry in
2013 and made the Open Ironman Final at the 2014 Aussies. Pride, Mateship and Passion
means everything to Tim. “It embodies the whole team, the experience and the
expectations”.
Jake Lynch
Lynchy, hailing from Newport SLSC, began Lifesaving at the age of 7. He was the World
beach sprint and flags Champion in 2012 and a bronze medallist in 2010. This is Jake’s first
cap for Australia believes that Pride, Mateship and Passion is giving your absolute everything
for your team mates.
Ryan Napoleon
Ryan is a dual Australian sports representative having represented his country in swimming
at the 2012 London Olympic Games and the 2010 Commonwealth Games. He is a
Commonwealth Games medallist and competed in two finals at the 2012 London Olympics.
Ryan is representing Currumbin Beach Vikings SLSC and RLSS Queensland and was a
member of the Australian Life Saving Teams’ winning 2013 German Cup campaign.
Andrew Bowden
Andrew, from Bronte SLSC and the Hills Lifesaving Club, was a part of the winning 2008
and 2010 World Championships Australian Life Saving Teams, and couldn’t think of anything
more special than representing your country. ‘Billy’ won gold in the 50m Manikin Carry at the
2008 World Championships and was the Australian Team Captain at the 2013 German Cup.
Andrew has 11 Australian Team caps.

Pamela Hendry
Pam is the current RLSSA female team captain and boasts former and current world records
in the pool. Representing Maroochydore SLSC and Brisbane Life Saving, Pam is a two time
Royal Life Saving Lifesaver of the Year award winner and is a vital member of Australia’s
Rescue ’14 campaign. “The pride to wear the green and gold, mateship to stand together
and support each other and passion for training and racing to achieve team success” is what
drives Pam towards Montpellier.
Miranda Bell
Miranda holds seven Australian team caps and is a former 200m Superlifesaver World
Record holder. From Northcliffe SLSC, ‘Bushy’ is an open Aussies surf race champion, a
world surf race champion and now, a three time World Championship Australian Life Saving
Team representative. Representing her country alongside some of Australia’s greatest
athletes and competing together is a great honour for Miranda.
Melissa Howard
Mel, from Kurrawa SLSC, holds a dominant nine Australian flags championships and is a
four time Worlds flag champion. She was the 2012 World Sprint Champ and holds three
Australian team caps. “Pride, Mateship and Passion is what we put in together to become
one. There is nothing better than representing your country with friends to achieve world
status”.
Kristyl Smith
Kristyl began lifesaving at the age of 5. She holds two Australian Ironwoman
Championships, is an Aussies Belt race champion is now a five time World Championship
Australian Life Saving Team member. From Northcliffe SLSC, Kristyl believes that Pride,
Mateship and Passion is being committed to the cause with a huge belief in yourself and
your team mates.
Christina Ruiz
Christina is a two time Commonwealth Champion with Royal Life Saving (RLSSA) and was a
part of the successful 2013 German Cup Australian Team. She holds the RLSSA Australian
record in the 100m Rescue Medley and hails from Northcliffe SLSC and RLSS Queensland.
Putting everything on the line for your country and your team mates are what the words
Pride, Mateship and Passion mean to her.
