Student Jotter and Digital Citizenship - The Epping School District
in compliance with NH State requirements for digital portfolios
implemented Student Jotter last year. Student Jotter is a digital portfolio
program. Students may access the program from anywhere there is an
Internet access.
Student Jotter is available to all of the students in Epping grades 4 –
12. It allows the students to keep a record of their work in all of the
grades. After graduation the students may still access their portfolios.
This helps with college interviews, college assignments and job
interviews. It is also a “green” way to keep past assignments.
The students may customize their home page to reflect their interests.
It is fun to watch the changes over the years.
The program ties in with the teaching of Digital Citizenship. In the
middle school, we use the Nine Themes of Digital Citizenship curriculum,
starting in sixth grade with basics of Internet safety and ending in eighth
grade with forum discussions. Topics include etiquette, Internet Safety,
Digital Security, Digital Law, Digital Rights and Responsibilities, Digital
Health and Wellness, and Digital Literacy. The students learn what it
means to be a good Digital Citizen. The link to the Nine Themes web page

Middle School Integrated Project Period: The MS faculty and staff
are working with your student(s) on an interest-based project that
incorporates 21st century themes and skills. Students start by picking a
topic that they are interested in that relates to the assigned theme and
skill(s). Teachers work with the students in smaller groups and help
them integrate two different core subjects that are related to the student’s
interest-based topic.
The goal of this project is to create an opportunity for students to
demonstrate mastery of essential grade-level curricula using 21 century
skills and themes. Students will receive three summative grades during
the course of this project. The summative grade in quarter three will be

The team announcer and one of the team’s mascots, ‘Slider,”
challenged EMS students to read five books by March 13, 2013. Those
who do, must keep track of their books and submit the entry form to their
teachers. Qualifying readers will receive two free tickets to Fisher Cats
games on April 6, 7, 21, May 14, or June 11. Literacy Team member, Mrs.
Thelma Thompson, further challenged students by encouraging them to
participate to better last year’s 32% participation rate. This year EMS
will shoot for 50%.
The Fisher Cats’ representatives also challenged the students to end
bullying in our schools. Student volunteers were called forward to read
the rules of bullying prevention. Other students took part in a trivia
contest with the categories of books, sports, and New Hampshire. Two
student volunteers participated in a “Chuck the Chicken” contest.
Volunteers were given tee shirts and sports towels for their participation.
