Descrição do curso:
O objetivo deste curso é fornecer uma introdução à ficção científica escrita em língua
inglesa. Seu foco será no conto, não só para possibilitar o contato com uma variedade maior de
temas, autores e épocas, mas também porque o conto sempre foi um meio de expressão importante
para a ficção científica. Além disso, trabalharemos também com alguns filmes. O cinema é um dos
principais fatores de popularização da ficção científica atualmente, e nos oferece a oportunidade de
examinar como os mundos alternativos propostos por ela encontram sua tradução através de sons e
imagens. Dado o enorme corpus desse gênero literário, não se pretende aqui fazer uma exploração
exaustiva de sua produção, mas sim dar uma ideia geral do campo, estudando alguns autores e obras
já considerados clássicos, além de exemplos da produção mais recente. Os textos foram organizados
em tópicos de acordo com alguns dos temas mais salientes explorados pela ficção científica ao
longo do tempo.
