Former Mayor Pam Houchen
agreed to plead guilty to public corruption and eight
fraud counts for illegally converting apartments to
condos in a deal that earned her about $500,000, officials said Monday.
Four other real estate professionals have agreed to
plead guilty to counts that include mail and wire fraud
and lying to authorities and are expected to enter
pleas Thursday in U.S. District Court in Santa Ana.
“I hope she goes to jail,” said condo owner Dwight
Flenniken.
Houchen, who declined to comment, faces up to
40 years in jail, a sentence likely to be reduced.
