The Definition of the Glory of God
The word in the Hebrew is the KABOD; it means splendid, majestic, illustrious, distinguished,
weighty, heavier than anything else.
The Greek word is DOXA = glory, or radiance, splendor, honor
A. His Glory Realized
Isaiah 6:1-6 In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high
and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim.
Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and
with two he flew. And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of
hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” And the foundations of the thresholds shook at
the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. And I said: “Woe is me!
For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean
lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!” Then one of the seraphim flew to
me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar.
1 Chronicles 29:10-13 Therefore David blessed the LORD in the presence of all the
assembly. And David said: “Blessed are you, O LORD, the God of Israel our father, forever
and ever. Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and
the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom,
O LORD, and you are exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come from you, and
you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great
and to give strength to all. And now we thank you, our God, and praise your glorious
name.
**Psalm 8:1; 24:7-10; 45:3; 57:5, 11; 63:1-2; 90:16
This is His essential glory; we can’t give it to Him; it is already His.
--Can you get more specific? Yes, if His glory is the sum of His attributes, then that means
that His glory is seen in the manifestation of His attributes. It is the display of who HE IS.

The Demand of the Glory of God
The demand is simple, that we live for His glory, for that is the reason for which we exist!
Philippians 1:20-21 as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed,
but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life
or by death. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
1 Chronicles 16:28-29 Ascribe to the LORD, O clans of the peoples, ascribe to the LORD glory
and strength! Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering and come before
him! Worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness;
Isaiah 43:6-7 I will say to the north, Give up, and to the south, Do not withhold; bring my
sons from afar and my daughters from the end of the earth, everyone who is called by my
name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.
The point for us as believers is that we are to be light.
Matthew 5:14-16 You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do
people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the
house. Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give
glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Light always shines brightest in the dark, right? These are great days in which to live, for if there
was ever a time when the Church could give God glory in an obvious way it is today, and if there
was ever a time when God needs to be represented in an accurate way it is today!
How do we display the glory of God to a watching world as a Church? Our motive for all we do at
Heritage Baptist Church is to bring glory to Jesus and how we seek to do that as a Church is what
this series is all about.
