Academy of Finance I August 2014 I. COURSE DESCRIPTION The Academy of Finance 1 students will begin their journey in the academy with an introduction to entrepreneurship, personal finance, and consumer law. Entrepreneurship: The purpose of this segment is to expose students to the role entrepreneurship plays in a market economy. Additionally, students will learn the skills and thought processes needed to run their own businesses or function as productive employees. Personal Finance: Provide a foundation of financial concepts to prepare students for financial responsibility as they transition from student to becoming financially independent adults. Skills will be developed to prepare students to be able to evaluate financial information and address money challenges as they occur. Consumer Law: One of the roles a citizen plays is that of consumer. In a world where consumer fraud is becoming more prevalent, it is important for students to gain the skills to be able to identify consumer fraud and avoid it. Also, there will be times where consumers will need to find the proper channels to file complaints and work for an equitable solution to the claim. 1 II.
