hold of a Bible. They are so hard to find
that in one church, if you want a Bible,
you have to learn Psalm 119 off by heart
to show how much you want one – it’s
176 verses long!
Your mission is to send secret Bibles
to secret believers. How? By baking
cakes and selling them.

sale at your church, school, or in your

What you’ll need:

Ingredients
55 grams/2 ounces butter
55 grams/2 ounces caster sugar
1 egg, lightly beaten
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
55 grams/2 ounces self-raising flour
1 tablespoon milk
For the icing:
150 grams/5 ounces icing sugar
1-2 tablespoons water
1-2 drops food colouring
What to do
1. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4
2. Line your fairy cake tin with paper cases.
3. Mix the butter and sugar together in a bowl with
a wooden spoon until the mixture looks pale and
creamy.
4. Add the whisked egg a little at a time, and stir in
the vanilla extract.
5. Add the flour and fold the mixture over itself with
a big metal spoon. Keep doing this until the flour
is mixed in.
6. Add a little milk until the mixture slowly drops off
the spoon, and spoon the mixture into the paper
cases until they are half full.
7. Bake in the oven for 8-10 minutes, or until goldenbrown on top.


8. Ask a parent to insert a knife or a knitting needle
into one of the cakes and check it comes out
clean. If it does, set the cakes aside to cool for 10
minutes.
9. Remove them from the tin and cool on a wire rack.
10. For the icing, sift the icing sugar into a large
mixing bowl and stir in enough water to create a
smooth mixture. Then stir in the food colouring!
11. Cover your cakes in icing and decorate them with
chocolate drops, sprinkles, sweets, or something
else to make them look delicious! Alternatively,
you could make them ‘secret cakes’ by decorating
them to look like something else eg. insects,
flowers, or big buttons - or by drawing the secret
symbols from your cipher disc on top!
12. After your cake sale, ask a parent or teacher to
send the money to Open Doors and we will send
you a Secret Certificate!
