Use the information below to complete the Biomes Map of North America Don’t forget to color your map key! 1. The dotted lines represent the border between the United States, Mexico, and Canada. All other lines show biome borders. Color the U.S. borders (dotted lines) RED. 2. Label the countries: Canada, United States, and Mexico. 3. The oceans, bays, gulfs, and Great Lakes are full of fish, big and small! Label the bodies of water: Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, Hudson Bay, & Artic Ocean. Color the water (including lakes) BLUE. 4. The tundra biome is very cold and always covered in snow and ice. Few plants can survive in the frozen tundra but animals like the Artic Fox and Polar Bear feed off fish and other small animals that live there. Northern Canada and Alaska are tundra- color the tundra GREY. 5. The boreal forest biome is known for its needle leaf trees, or evergreens. Winters are cold and snowy but summers are warm. The temperate rainforest biome has a moderate or medium temperature, never too hot or too cold. It is always raining there and it is always green. This biome is known for its trees of all kinds, mosses, and ferns. Animals like deer, bears, and squirrels live here. The very northwest corner of the United States (think Washington state) and southwestern Canada is temperate rainforest- color the temperate rainforest PINK. 8. The deciduous forest biome has tons of different deciduous trees (the trees that lose their leaves in the winter). This biome gets all four seasons, with a cold winter and a hot summer. Animals like deer and squirrels eat the berries and vines that grow here. The eastern half of the United States is deciduous forestcolor the deciduous forest LIGHT GREEN. 9. The grassland biome is known for its tall grasses and no trees. It has all 4 seasons, with a hot summer and cold winter and it can be dry at times. Animals like prairie dogs, coyote, and buffalo live here. The middle of the U.S. & the western half of Mexico are grasslands- color the grasslands YELLOW. 10. The tropical rainforest biome is found near the equator. It is very warm there and receives a ton of rain. Tall trees and plants with huge leaves grow here. Animals like monkeys, jaguars, and tigers live in this biome. The eastern edge of Mexico and Central America, Hawaii, and the Caribbean Islands are all tropical rainforests- color the tropical rainforests PURPLE. 11.
