Paul Gauguin (goh-gan): Complementary Colors Materials: Template of Tahitian Landscape Colored Construction Paper Color Wheels Not Supplied: Crayons/Markers, Glue Sticks Let’s make our own island landscape using complementary colors like Gauguin. Talk about how the students can use complementary colors in their paintings. Have them think about what color that object would be then use the color wheel to color it opposite or how it would really appear. They do not all have to color the picture the same. The sky could be green and the foreground red. Or instead of a blue sky it could be orange. Let them have fun using the color wheel to find opposite colors to use in their picture. When finished they can mount/glue the picture on construction paper.
