CL2N Teen Leader Application

April/May 2012
4-H News
Welcome to 4-H!
Enrollment is steadily coming in and for the third year in a row we have 70+ new 4-H members
in the Nez Perce County 4-H Program! For many of you this is your first 4-H Newsletter. I
would like to take a moment on behalf of the Extension Office, the returning members, leaders,
and parents to say Welcome! We are happy that you have decided to take part in this great
program. Your first year will be very busy, and I am sure that you will have many questions.
Luckily we have a great program with tremendous leaders who will be there with you throughout the year. Hopefully, when fair rolls around, you will look back upon your 1st 4-H year with
fond memories and be looking forward to many 4-H years to come!
You should receive a copy of 4-H News every other month. Please be sure to read over it carefully as it has the most current events, activities, and changes that you need to be aware of.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Extension Office. I look forward to
meeting all of you and expect great things from our returning members.
Here’s to a great 4-H Year!
CL2N 4-H Camp
“Celebrate 4-H… Party Like it’s 1912!”
Mark your calendar for our CL2N 4-H overnight camp, July 13-16 at
Camp Wooten ELC. This year we will be celebrating the 100th birthday of 4-H in Idaho! Along
with swimming, canoeing, and shooting sports we will be making crafts, and playing lots of
great games! 4-H Camp is for all 4-H members in the 3rd through 7th grades. Watch for
registration forms in the next newsletter.
TEENS - if you would like to be a camp counselor at CL2N 4-H camp, please let me know as
soon as possible so I can get you an application. Nez Perce County will only have room for ten
teens this year, so don’t hesitate!
Great Job Hannah Schwank!
In each newsletter I have a hidden word or phrase. If you find it and are the first one to call
or e-mail it into me then you will win a 4-H prize and get your name in the next newsletter!
Hannah Schwank was the latest newsletter winner! Hannah is one of our new members and
has joined the K-9 Clovers 4-H club.
You could be next! Look inside this newsletter for this years’ fair theme. Good luck!
Livestock Weigh-Ins
Market Beef & Stocker Feeder Weigh-In will be held on May 3 from 4-7pm at Van Buren’s
Feedlot. Lewiston Veterinary Clinic will be there to vaccinate and worm your project animal.
Recommended initial weight for Market Steers is 750-800#, and final weight is 1050-1500#.
Stocker-Feeders at the May 3rd weigh-in are recommended to weigh 400-450#. At Fair your
Stocker-Feeder needs to weigh between 500# and 900#.
Sheep, Goat & Swine Weigh-In will be held on June 12 from 4-7pm at the Nez Perce County
Fairgrounds. Lewiston Veterinary Clinic will be on hand to give vaccinations and worming
medications. Martin Dibble will also be present to shear your lambs. Recommended initial
weight for lambs is 55-65# and final weight is 100-160#. Recommended initial weight for hogs
is 65-75# and final weight is 215-300#. Final fair weight for goats is 50-130#.
Market Animal Insurance
Unfortunately, as of February 1, 2012 market animal insurance is no longer being offered
through Grange Insurance. There is livestock insurance available through American Livestock
Insurance Company, however the minimum premium is $100. If you are planning to get
insurance, it is highly recommended to insure your animal prior to weigh in.
Enrollment & Responsibility Agreements
Enrollment is now due. Market Animal Leaders, please be sure to have all of your members sign
and turn in their responsibility agreements to the office. I would like to have all agreements on
file before initial weigh-ins. Remember members - you cannot complete your project, and
therefore cannot sell your market animal, if a signed responsibility From Pioneer Days to Modern
Ways agreement is not on file.
First Security/Wells Fargo Wristwatch Award
This award recognizes achievements of older 4-H members over a period of 3 years. It will be
presented at the Achievement Night in October. To be eligible a member must have completed
3 or more years in 4-H and have passed their 14th birthday at the time of application. For more
information and an application, contact the Extension Office. Application deadline is June 1st.
Happy Birthday to...
