¿Qué Hora Es?
Yasemin Akyurek, grade 6
Students in Mrs. Blanco’s 6th grade
Spanish class recently identified
a list of all the Spanish-speaking
countries that use the 24-hour
clock. Learning to tell time in
Spanish was followed by planning
trips in those countries using
online train and plane schedules.
They shared their schedules in
Spanish with the class and are
now able to tell time “en español”
using the 24-hour clock.

A Framework for Literacy, Curriculum,
and Content
Daniel Cohen, Naomi Raisman, Madison Draizin, and Ryan Hoffman, all grade 2
Luke Kreysar, grade 2
Mrs. Hindelang’s second grade class explored “the news” in their latest
reading unit. Some students used newspapers, while others accessed
the news online using iPads, to investigate articles, advertisements,
the weather, comics, sports, and the classifieds. Learners incorporated
the content found in the various news sections into creative learning
experiences such as locating the cities discussed in stories on a map
or globe, utilizing comics to relay the story action and sequence events,
analyzing advertisements to find the best prices for food, and even
creating their very own classified ad.
