Big Data has created the need for Big Storage. Organizations
are facing challenges with digital content such as video,
imaging and audio files rapidly filling primary storage to
capacity. Choosing to delete or archive less critical data are
often the only options to continue the use of primary storage.
ATTO has an affordable solution using JBOD storage with the
FastStream to create scalable nearline storage that eases the
strain on primary storage. FastStream features low latency,
parity protection, capacities up to 512TB and has high
performance for video streaming, distribution and editing.
Storage Tiers
FastStream is highly effective when used to create secondary
nearline storage (Tier 3) which can be used for project staging
all video, image and audio elements and integrating this
storage with digital asset management systems to provide a
fast, efficient repository for storing and retrieving these assets.
Top tier primary storage is very fast, highly available and scalable but comes with a very high cost per gigabyte. Secondary
storage serves as a repository for data that can be aged off of
primary storage tiers and decrease backup window times to
give companies a lower TCO on storage infrastructures.

Scalable, Modular Solution
FastStream provides flexibility by allowing organizations to
start small and pay as they grow adding JBOD storage as they
need to expand capacity while retaining RAID protection on
existing storage. FastStream natively supports up to four
Fibre Channel connections which can be ported into the Fibre
Channel network to assign FastStream as secondary nearline
storage. Once copied to this storage tier data can be deleted
from primary online storage freeing it up for production usage.
