The 2017 MPSF Championship featured 20 universities comprised from members of the Pac-12, Big West, and West Coast Conferences. A total of 20 women’s teams competed for a conference title, along with 15 on the men’s side. At the conclusion of the two-day meet, the USC women won their third title in the last four years, compiling 125 points, 20 ahead of second-place Oregon. The top-two were reversed on the men’s side, with the Ducks winning a third MPSF title and the Trojans finishing as runners-up. The Stanford women and UCLA men were the 2017 bronze medal teams. For the third straight year, five meet records were broken at the MPSF Championship meet. The oldest lasting women’s record was taken down when Sasha Wallace of Oregon sprinted the 60-meter hurdles in 7.95, breaking the standard from 2004. Teammate and world record-holder Hannah Cunliffe broke the conference championship record and tied the Dempsey Facility record in the 60-meter dash in 7.15 seconds. USC’s Kendall Ellis finished the women’s 200-meter in 23.09 seconds, a meet and facility record, while the Trojan 4x400 meter relay tied the conference and facility standard set by Arizona last year in 3:32.54. The MPSF Championship record in the women’s 4x400 meter relay has now been achieved in four of the last five years. The lone men’s record in the 2017 conference meet was set by Randall Cunningham of USC, recording an NCAA top-ranked high jump of seven feet, five and one-quarter inches. The 2017 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships will be contested March 10 and 11, at Gilliam Indoor Track in College Station, TX. The MPSF has produced eight of the last 10 NCAA women’s champions and 10 all-time, while the MPSF men own five total. Oregon women are the defending NCAA Champs, and have won six of the past seven titles (five straight 2010-14). The UO men seek a fourth straight national championship, and fifth all-time.
