Birthday Celebration Parade
Theme - MLK Day: "A Day On, Not A Day Off"
Thank you for your interest in the 2017 Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration Parade which will be
held on Monday, January 16th. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration is a thrilling four day
event from January 13th - 16th that will include a carnival and live music throughout the weekend, ending
with an exciting parade and program celebrating the birth of Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday, January
16th.
The parade will line up at the Cove Shopping Center (1580 SE 3rd Court); we ask that you check in at
8:30 AM. The parade will begin at 10:00 AM and will go west on Hillsboro Boulevard, south on Martin
Luther King, Jr. Ave, west on SW 2nd street, ending at the Oveta McKeithen Recreational Complex
(formerly known as Westside Park) (445 SW 2nd Street).
Following the parade, there will be an awards ceremony at the Oveta McKeithen Recreational Complex.
Trophies will be given to the winner in each of the below listed categories. Be sure when filling out the
application, that you list the category for which you wish to be considered. Judges will be located on the
stage in the front parking lot of the Oveta McKeithen Recreational Complex facing Martin Luther King, Jr.
Avenue. Please note, it is important for you to provide the names of those that you would like
acknowledged by the emcee together with any other information about your entry, should you be chosen
as a winner.

In consideration of the permission granted by the MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. BIRTHDAY
CELEBRATION and the CITY of DEERFIELD BEACH, to participate in the 2017 MARTIN
LUTHER KING JR. BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION PARADE, I
(participant) hereby agree to sign this Release and Waiver.
Accordingly, I agree to unconditionally release, waive and discharge THE CITY OF DEERFIELD
BEACH, its Commission members, employees, agents and servants, all hereafter to be referred
to as “RELEASES”, from all claims and courses of action, that I, my personal representatives,
assigns, heirs and next of kin may have for any loss, damage, or injury to person or property,
weather caused by the negligence or otherwise of the releases. In addition, I agree to indemnify
completely, the releases against all claims, demands and actions arising out of my actions or
involvement with THE CITY OF DEERFIELD BEACH. I certify and warrant that I am in good
physical condition and able to participate in the above activity or event. I have carefully read the
foregoing release and waiver and know the contents thereof and signed this release and waiver
as my own free act . I expressly agree that this Release and Waiver is intended to be as broad
and as inclusive as permitted by the laws of the State of Florida and that any portion thereof is
held invalid, it is agreed that the balance shall not withstanding continue in full force and effect. In
