Section 4 Rivers, Coasts & Flooding 1) The Structure of the Earth: The four layers of the Earth, including the difference between oceanic and continental crust. 2) Plate Boundaries: How to annotate a diagram both of a constructive plate boundary (where oceanic plates move apart) and a destructive plate boundary (where oceanic and continental plates meet) and where these occur in the world 3) The causes, human effects, environmental effects and human responses of the two case studies: Montserrat (LEDC Volcano) San Francisco (MEDC Earthquake) 1) Weathering: physical (freeze thaw/frost-­‐ shattering), chemical and biological weathering. 2) Erosion: hydraulic action, abrasion/corrasion, solution/corrosion, attrition Syllabus 3) Transportation: floating, solution, suspension, traction, saltation, swash, backwash, longshore drift 4) River Land forms: how to draw annotated diagrams to illustrate the formation of each river landform: a) Meander b) Waterfall & gorge 5) Coastal Landforms: how to draw annotated diagrams to illustrate the formation of each coastal landform: a) Headland (caves, arches, stacks, stumps) b) Spit 6) Flooding: The causes (physical & human), the effects/impacts (environmental & human) and the human responses (reducing the effects/ impacts) of the flooding case study: The annual flooding of Bangladesh All revision material will be handed out during the Spring term, with revision sessions built into the Geography timetable.
