We introduced three new members on the 8th; Lars Lunneborg, George Beauchesne & Terri Pratt and we will be welcoming at least one more couple next month, Jim Grant & Mary Gray. With the large attendance the 50/50 was over $70.00 again, probably going to have to start withholding if the IRS finds out! Speaking of the IRS, if you’re reading this after the 15th I hope you still have a smile on your face. If you don’t have a smile, take a ride and you soon will have one. Several nice runs set for the next few weeks; dinner to Lenny's, our annual Spring Run (this year to Bird Aviation Museum and Invention Center), and a day enjoying the 25th Annual Depot Day Festival and Classic Car Show. We've also been invited up to Nelson B.C. on Friday, September 10th and Saturday, September 11th by Jeff and Cathy Robinson to enjoy the Road Kings Car Show and Queen City Cruise. I'm happy to announce that Camp Chevrolet has once again stepped up and is sponsoring our club this year, thank you Jim. We are still looking for that one major sponsor; hope to have good news on that next meeting. Please note we have a new phone number, 208-968-9226. The club gets, at the most, 10 calls per year. We were paying Quest over $500.00 for phone service, that's $50.00 a call! Bill Moore investigated MagicJack at $20.00 a year, and we bought it. Now we do have a 208 area code, as the 509 area code was not available at the time of purchase. We are investigating getting a number with the 509 area code, more next month. Glass on Grass is on schedule. Expect to have entry forms and the design for our t-shirt to present at our next meeting. Our Friday Meet & Greet is set for the Hot Rod Cafe in Post Falls as is the brunch at Northern Quest Resort and Casino on Sunday. Of course the park is reserved. Still struggling with the autocross. Telephone Committee Linda Rumiser Next month we will have a guest speaker, Glenn Vaughn of Restoration Services, Inc. in Post Falls. I'll have more on Glenn as our meeting draws closer, but if you want to jump ahead, go to www.glennvaughn.com Autocross Bill Moore Once again please thank those that donated items for our raffle: Vino! A Wine Shop, TireRama, Bob Hanson, Vince Beck, Rex Reed and Katherine Moore. See you on the road, Rex Volume 52 Issue 4 2010 Of the 22,940 Corvettes built in 1967, 14,436 were convertibles with a base price of $4,240.75. The L71 engine was an additional $437.10 and if as stated, the heater delete would have been a $97.85 credit. 3,464 total Corvettes had the 988 exterior color code, Marlboro Maroon. Corvette Black Book My 1967 Corvette convertible is a true L71 matching numbers car (427/435 hp). The vehicle was represented to me by the prior owners to be a “heater delete” optioned car and has what appear to be the factory plugs inserted into the dash; however, I do not have the tank sticker and have no definitive confirmation yet that this option is legitimate. The car was purchased by me in the fall of 2007 from a gentleman in Severna Park, Maryland. Immediately prior to his ownership, the car had been owned by the owner of Dixie Corvette in North Carolina. The car had undergone an extensive frame-off mechanical and interior restoration just before I purchased it, but the body was still in need of a restoration. I immediately hired Glenn Vaughn Restoration Services in Post Falls, Idaho to conduct a full body restoration and to restore the paint to its trim tag Marlboro Maroon with black stinger. The photo was taken by me the same day I received the car via the shipper and before body restoration. The paint prior to restoration was red as noted in the photo. Byron L. McLean SPOKANE CORVETTE CLUB Meeting Minutes April 8, 2010 The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by President Rex Reed. The Minutes from March’s meeting were approved (msp.) Financial Report Treasurer Barb Beck reported a beginning balance of $2969.28, income of $280.00, expenses of $154.94, and an ending balance of $3094.34. The total in the savings account is $3732.34. (Treasurer’s report approved msp.) Old Business Sponsorships: Camp Chevrolet is committed as a sponsor, although not at its previous level. Appleway had been interested as a Major Sponsor, but as Camp was already a sponsor and Appleway could not be exclusive, they have declined. We are still pursuing other sponsorships. The new phone number is (208) 968-9226. This MajicJack number saves the club a significant amount of money. New Business For a complete and up-to-date listing of upcoming events, please see the website. President Rex Reed reported that Glass on Grass will appear in American Profile, a Saturday supplement to the Spokesman-Review. In addition to the events listed on the website, the run to Nelson, B.C. will take place on September 11. Cathy Robinson is coordinating that event. A block of rooms is currently available for $79.00 per night, and will be held for the next 6 weeks. Call Cathy for more information, and see the website for ongoing notices. The upcoming run to Lenny’s in Cheney was noted, as was the Spring Run to the Bird Museum on April 25, organized by Chuck and Lorie Adams. Once again, check the website. Rex has made business cards with the club logo available for members. Next month’s meeting will feature a presentation by Glenn Vaughn from Restoration Services Inc. as a guest speaker. Following the 50/50 drawing and door prizes the meeting was adjourned at 7:50. Respectfully submitted, Bob Crabb, Secretary Volume 52 Issue 4 2010 Information of interest from one of our members Something that I have meant to do since last fall was to pass on to everyone information that Judi and I gathered regarding the front license plates on Corvettes. We had heard that a few of the club members and other Corvette owners in Spokane had received traffic tickets for not having front plates on their cars. I consulted our local Liberty Lake police department and was informed that they would not do such a thing but referred me to RCW 46.16.240 of the Washington State vehicle code. The code does require front plates on cars however one sentence within the code states; “In cases where the body construction of the vehicle is such that compliance with this section is impossible, permission to deviate there from may be granted by the state police.” The C6 does not have a manufactured specific plate body location provided for on the front of the Corvette. Judi and I then drove our C6 Z06 to the medical lake state police department. We presented our case to the on duty state trooper who was very much taken by the atomic orange color of our Corvette. He said that he was not aware of any state trooper including himself that would give a ticket to any Corvette for not having a front plate and he did not know of any waver form. He then left us for awhile and went to the next building to discuss this with the licensing issuing lady. He explained to us after conferring with her that she said she was aware of the RCW. However she knew of no one who would enforce it and if a ticket is written for that RCW violation on Corvettes the prosecutors have not enforced the statute or prosecuted the tickets. We have made copies of the RCW and keep the copies in both of our Corvette glove compartments with registrations and insurance etc for reference if we were ever to be stopped for not having our front license plates. I would recommend this being done by all Corvette owners regardless of the year or body style. The RCW can be accessed by going to Washington State RCW 46.16.240 Attachment of plates to vehicles – Violations enumerated.
