Course Overview
In 7th Grade, students study Texas History. The student understands the location and
characteristics of places and regions of Texas. The student understands how individuals,
events, and issues through the Mexican National Era shaped the history of Texas. The student

Classroom Tools
PlannerStudents will be required to use an academic planner. Each day at the beginning of class,
students will write the assignments and upcoming due dates on the correct day in the social
studies section of the planner.
2 Pocket Folder with BradsWe will keep these folders inside the classroom until they need to go home before quizzes or
tests. We will organize papers inside the folder every quarter using a Table of Contents.
Folders will be checked regularly for the upkeep of assignments.

The class website will be your go-to spot for homework, important announcements, extra
help resources, printable assignments, and more!

Grading Policy
Formative
20%
(Ex. Daily class work, Homework, Quizzes, Class participation)
Summative
80%
(Ex. Tests, Projects, Essays)
Absences and Make-up Work
It is your responsibility to pick up and complete make-up work in a timely fashion. Students
should obtain make-up work BEFORE or AFTER class- not during instruction time. If you have
been absent, check for assignments in your class period folder in the absent binder. Students
must arrange to make-up missed tests or quizzes during tutorials either before or after school.
Late Work
7th Grade Social Studies work will follow the DISD district policy on late work and absences.
Tutoring
Tutoring is a great way to keep up or catch up in class. I am readily available for tutoring and
highly encourage you to utilize it. Please see the class website to find specific tutorial times
and check for changes as the year progresses.
