French Mardi Gras celebration

3 March 2017
Dear Parents,
With the start of Lent this week, the children have been thinking about what positive actions they can do during
this reflective period (not just stopping doing the unhealthy habits, like giving up chocolate!). I would
encourage you as a family to have a look at home at the list of ideas at the bottom of this newsletter, to see
what maybe you could do pro-actively, to encourage your child/ren to find enjoyment in doing lovely things for
others.
Kindness Shield: Awarded to Lily Humphries for being a good friend and always ready to help others.

This week’s winners are:

Art competition for Wycombe Homeless Connection
We are delighted that two of our pupils have had their art entries shortlisted. Many congratulations to Lola
Baughan Hendy and Jack Hudson. Their work will be on display in High Wycombe Library from 9th March to end of
April.
French Mardi Gras celebration
Class 6 thoroughly enjoyed their Mardi Gras French lesson on Tuesday. With many thanks to Mrs Ambrose, Mrs
Allen and Mrs Poyton for their help making and serving delicious pancakes to the children, who served and
received them whilst speaking French.
Penn Street Walk (message from Mrs Watts)
Year 5 were really pleased that the weather held sufficiently on Monday afternoon for them all to complete their
reflection walk around Penn Street. It allowed them to think about and pray for the local area, its residents,
activities and events and for all the ways that the school and they as individuals connect with our local area. I
would like to thank our parent helpers, Mrs Miller, Mrs Cave and Mrs Crampsie, without whose support, this trip
wouldn’t have been possible.
World Book Day
A fabulous day. Staff had been watching with interest what Miss Greathead’s final costume would be for her last
World Book Day at Curzon! Children had a super time guessing the characters who turned up for the day, being
enthused about numerous books they might like to read and making book marks. I would like to thank our Year 6
House Captains for sharing some books with the Key Stage 1 children.

Learning Ladders
Please note that if there is a date at the top of the ladder the date refers to when the ladder was created and not
the date of the assessments. The assessments are up to date.
Resilience thought for the week
Please take the thought below as a little self-challenge to note, in combination with this week’s Bible verse!
Check out how you as a parent model a response to a situation, to your child. Do you sometimes
become over emotional and let your chimp out and have a rant and rage, or are you able to show a
sense of calm, forgiveness, gentleness and self-control.

This year the Easter lunch will take place on Wednesday 29th of March. This is an event organised for the children

pub and is £4.50 per child. There is the option to bring in a packed lunch if that is what your child would prefer.
Could everybody please fill in the online form at www.curzonschool.co.uk/pta/festive-lunch-form/. Payment can be
made online or with a cheque (to Curzon School PTA) or cash in a named envelope, posted into the PTA box in the

If you are free on the day, it would be brilliant if you could come along to help set up the hall and serve the food.
