This medium term plan is just an outline to support your weekly planning – please adapt/find/create other activities to use alongside it, according to the needs of your groups
In Autumn 1 children are taught in whole class groups by class teacher, with support from LSA/Nursery Officer.
Usually children are taught in smaller ‘set’ groups towards the end of Autumn 2/beginning of Spring 1 once half termly phonic assessments have taken place & levels established.
Children are taught roughly 4 sounds per week - This must be flexible to meet needs of the groups – if children struggle with particular sounds, especially as digraphs are introduced then it may be necessary to spend more
time recapping particular sounds before introducing new ones.
Ditties & storybooks are introduced once children have completed Speed Sounds One.

Phonics writing books are introduced in Spring Term once teaching ‘sets’ have been finalised.
