Frances’ practice mainly encompasses family and immigration law.
Family Law Barristers
Frances’ family practice encompasses all Children Act and Family Act proceedings and Frances is regularly instructed to
advise and/or appear in matters comprising her cross-discipline in immigration and family law.
Frances also undertakes drafting in each of her specialist areas and regularly advises local authorities and guardians ad
litem on the steps to be taken to resolve immigration issues within family proceedings.
Before coming to the Bar Frances gained several years’ experience as a Family Law Advisor at the Citizens Advice Bureau
and as a Paralegal in a busy high street solicitors firm, managing a substantial private and publicly funded practice in all
areas of family law.
Cases
AI v MT (2013) EWHC 100 (Fam): Enforcement proceedings following a landmark decision in which the court
explained its approach to making a consent order in matrimonial proceedings after the parties reached an
agreement following arbitration carried out by rabbinical authorities.

Frances has a busy practice in the First Tier and Upper Tribunal and is regularly instructed in Judicial Review proceedings
and increasingly in the Court of Appeal.

Additionally, Frances undertakes drafting in all of her specialist areas, including urgent Judicial Review challenges. Her
specialisms include all areas of immigration, human rights, nationality and administrative law including, deportation, EEA,
entry clearance, fresh claims, the Points Based System, family reunion, domestic violence, unaccompanied children,
victims of trafficking, human rights law and Judicial Review.
Before coming to the Bar, Frances worked as an Immigration Caseworker for the charity Refugee and Migrant Justice.
Frances remains ever committed to protecting access to justice for the vulnerable and providing the highest level of
representation and justice for her clients.

AZ (Pakistan) v SSHD & Ors [2016] EWCA Civ 705: 6 linked appeals to determine when it’s reasonable to
remove a child with seven years continuous residence within 276ADE(1)(iv) and s.117B(6).
Rodriguez, Mandalia & Patel v SSHD [2014] EWCA Civ 2: Linked appeals in which the court determined the
ambit of the SSHD’s Evidential Flexibility Policy.
Barry (conduct of hearing) [2015] UKUT 00541 (IAC): Appeals may be determined without hearing from the
Respondent’s representative where the grounds and arguments involve an unmeritorious challenge.
R (on the application of Singh & Another) v SSHD [2015] UKUT 00134 (IAC): Challenge against certification
