NC SENIOR CENTER OF EXCELLENCE
April-May 2017
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
May is OLDER AMERICANS MONTH
Each May we celebrate Older Americans Month! This
year’s theme is “Age Out Loud,” and is intended to give
aging a new voice-one that reflects what today’s older
adults have to say about aging. More than ever before,
older Americans are working longer, trying new things, and
engaging in their communities. They’re taking charge,
striving for wellness, focusing on independence, and
advocating for themselves and others. They expect to
continue to live their lives to the fullest, and they’re insisting
on changes that make that possible. You are invited to
celebrate Older American’s Month at
CELEBRATION OF LIFE on Friday, May 5
from 8:30 AM – 1PM at Mountain Grove
Baptist Church, 28645 Connelly Springs

“Sleep Tight as you Age”
with Dr. Burris
Wednesday, April 26, 1:00pm
As we age we often experience normal changes in our sleeping patterns,
such as becoming sleepy earlier, waking up earlier, or enjoying less deep sleep. However,
disturbed sleep, waking up tired every day, and other symptoms of insomnia are not a normal part of
aging. Sleep is just as important to our physical and
emotional health as it was when we were younger.
Dr. Burris is board certified in Internal Medicine,
Pulmonary Disease, and Sleep Medicine. He is
practicing at Caldwell Sleep Medicine located in
Anderson Medical Park in Hudson. Caldwell Sleep
Medicine provides state-of-the-art technology that
measures sleep quality.
To learn more about sleep patterns in older adults
and ways to get a better night’s sleep, please call to
attend this program, 758-2883.
