4th Quarter
Unit #1: Cell Division and Specialization- Describe the steps required for a cell to divide and justify the importance of this phenomenon in the survival of an
organism and species. (7.3.3, 7.3.5, 7.3.6, 7.3.7)

Week 30
April 3 - 7
(5 days)
Week 31
April 10 - 14

Week 32
April 17 - 21
(5 days)
Standards
Big Idea: Recognize that multicellular organisms contain specialized cells that are organized into tissues.
7.3.3 Explain that, although the way cells function is similar in all living organisms, multicellular organisms have specialized cells whose
specialized functions are directly related to their structure.
Big Idea: Discuss the role of cell division in organism growth, repair and specialization.
7.3.5 Explain that cells in multicellular organisms repeatedly divide to make more cells for growth and repair.
7.3.6 Explain that after fertilization a small cluster of cells divides to form the basic tissues of an embryo and further develops into all the
specialized tissues and organs within a multicellular organism.
Big Idea: Describe the process of cell division.
7.3.5 Explain that cells in multicellular organisms repeatedly divide to make more cells for growth and repair.
Big Idea: Evaluate the role of cell division in the overall survival of a species.
Unit #2: Science Engineering and Technology (7.4.1, 7.4.2, 7.4.3, 7.4.4) Physical Science Energy (7.1.2, 7.1.1, 7.1.3)
Week 33
April 24 - 28
(5 days)
Design and construct a device that converts energy from one form to another to perform work. Review Energy transfer, conservation of energy,
and environmental impact of energy.
Week 34
May 1 - 5
(5 days)
Week 35
May 8 - 12
(5 days)
Big Idea: Understand that energy is used to do work in many processes and review how energy is transferred
7.4.1 Understand that energy is the capacity to do work.
7.4.2 Explain that energy can be used to do work using many processes (e.g., generation of electricity by harnessing wind energy).
7.1.2 Describe and give examples of how energy can be transferred from place to place and transformed from one form to another through
radiation, convection and conduction.
Big Idea: Understand that power is the rate that energy is converted from one form to another. Explain the relevance of power
systems. Review Conservation of energy and environmental impact.
7.1.1 Explain that when energy is transferred from one system to another, the total quantity of energy does not change.
7.4.3 Explain that power is the rate that energy is converted from one form to another.
7.4.4 Explain that power systems are used to provide propulsion for engineered products and systems
7.1.3 Recognize and explain how different ways of obtaining, transforming and distributing energy have different environmental
consequences.

Unit #3: Cumulative Review & Corrective Instruction. Standards vary based on student mastery of content for covered throughout the year. A list of
possible standards is listed here, but do not indicate the only standards that should be covered during this time.
Week 36-38
May 15- June 2
(13 Instructional days)
Week 39
June 5-8
Cellular Function and Reproduction
7.3.4 Compare and contrast similarities and differences among specialized sub
cellular components within plant and animal cells (including organelles and
cell walls that perform essential functions and give cells shape and structure).
7.3.5 Explain that cells in multicellular organisms repeatedly divide to make
more cells for growth and repair.
7.3.6 Explain that after fertilization a small cluster of cells divides to form the
basic tissues of an embryo and further develops into all the specialized tissues
and organs within a multicellular organism.
Earth Structure and Processes
7.2.1 Describe how the earth is a layered structure composed of lithospheric
plates, a mantle and a dense core.
7.2.4 Explain how convection currents in the mantle cause lithospheric plates
to move and cause fast changes like earthquakes and volcanic eruptions and
slow changes like the creation of mountains and formation of new ocean
floors.
Review Forces and Energy
7.1.6 Explain that forces have magnitude and direction and those forces can
be added to determine the net force acting on an object.
7.1.1 Explain that when energy is transferred from one system to another, the
total quantity of energy does not change.
7.1.2 Describe and give examples of how energy can be transferred from
place to place and transformed from one form to another through radiation,
convection and conduction.
7.1.3 Recognize and explain how different ways of obtaining, transforming
and distributing energy have different environmental consequences.
Teacher are encouraged to give any end of year assessments during this
time.
End of year assessment (if not already done), final grades shared with
students, end of year lessons / activities such as engineering challenges,
unique scientific experiments, or other enrichment opportunities.
