Welcome back to school! Another exciting and eventful school year lies ahead. I would like to give an extra special welcome to the new children and their families who have joined our school this term. We are sure you will be happy at SAVS and will quickly feel part of our school community. The term has already started and the children and teachers have already settled quickly into their new classes and routines – having started this term’s theme: Ships. The children in each house have voted for their house captains. Each candidate from Year 6 presented their case for why they felt they would make a good leader. The votes were close, however the following children were elected: Pine House (Green): Nicholas Lockington and Phoebe Gallagher Sycamore House (Yellow): Jamie Higgins and Summer Hopkins Oak House (Red): Harriet Fielder and Elliot Rowe Birch House (Blue): Ben Braithwaite and Ollie Davies Congratulations! Our school council has been elected in each class. Foundation Stage 2 - Jessica Shapland and James Marsh Year 1 –Milene Bowyer and Thomas Clark Year 2 – William Kelly and Madeline Palmer Year 3 – Daisy Bo Morgan and Eddie Evans Year 4 Lions – Josh Dunkley and Katie Miles Year 4 Tigers – Jayden Stephens and Phoebe Cassar Year 5 –Jason Harding and Scarlett Spratt Year 6 – Jamie Mescall and Natalia Rosu Mr Addison will be holding regular meetings with the council. We look forward to the decisions and changes that they will bring to South Ascot Village School. All our clubs are kindly run after school, by our teachers, free of charge. Each club has limited numbers so please restrict your child to one club per half-term to give every child an opportunity to participate. This does however exclude football and netball club as this is for team practice where a commitment is required for a longer period of time. Homework club is also a club which children can attend on a weekly/yearly basis or where required or directed by teachers. Monday – Netball – Mrs Carey Kelly (Selected Team) Tuesday – Computing including Bug Club and Purple Mash – Mrs Lizzie Kelly Thursday – - Homework – KS2 only – Mrs Winterbottom Football – Years 5 and 6 – Mr Jack Forrest Football - Years 3 and 4 – Mr James Addison - Ball Sports – Years 1 and 2 – Mrs Nickii Higgins - Cookery – Years 1 to 6 – Mrs Estrada – the children will be required to bring in the required ingredients each week to take part. All clubs run from 3:20 until 4:15pm and will start next week – Week beginning 12th September 2016. Sign-up sheets will be available on Monday 12th September 2016. We would like to welcome WilsonJones as our new school caterers. Just a few reminders: All of F2, Year 1 and Year 2 children are entitled to Universal Free School Meals, it is a good opportunity for them to try new foods. If you think your child may be entitled to Free School Meals as you may be on certain benefits, please come to the office and collect a form. We do have an online checking system for this service, it is quick and easy and confidential. For those parents who think they may be in credit from last term, please come to the office for a refund. There is no credit system for school lunches with WilsonJones. Monies need to be paid for on Monday mornings for the week, the cost is £2.40 per day (there are no discounts with this company) £12 for the week. Cheques are payable to: WilsonJones Catering Services Ltd. If your child has been having lunch this week and you have not paid, this needs to come in on Monday. Hopefully as from after October half-term an online payment system will be up and running. We will keep you informed. We will also, in the near future, be installing lifts to eliminate the problem of the stairs. When dropping off and picking up your child/children please make sure that you don’t use the lower gate as a general entrance. This is only for parents with pushchairs or wheelchair users only until the lifts are installed. On Friday 25th of September we would like to ask the children to ‘Go Purple’ to raise awareness about Meningitis. In return for a £1 donation to the charity the children can come to school wearing purple. Advanced warning: Parents Evenings will take place on Monday 17th and Wednesday 19th October from 3:30pm to 6:00pm. These evenings provide you with the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress directly with their class teacher. Please try your best to attend, so we can work together to help support your child at school. Sign-up sheets will be available nearer the time. The whole SAVS team and I look forward to the year ahead and to working closely with you all. Miss Kate Rimell Headteacher
